Put that wallet down right goddamn now
What’s that supposed to mean?
Our defence looks good. Don’t need to blow up one position to improve it.Forsberg vs Tokarski + late pick
I like the idea of Fright about a three way deal for Karlson vs Norris
Donato vs JBD and 3rnd pick
B.Tanev vs 2rnd
Sherwood isn't like the others though and would actually be excellent in our system and be a great boost to bottom 6, and even be useful in the top 6 giving more space for Timmy to work with for example.Huge yes too Luke Schenn. While we're at it get Lauzon and Sherwood from Vancouver.
Forget scoring, lets' just hit our opponents into oblivion
Even more reason to trade our Round 1-3 picks for immediate help. This dude will just waste them on Gabriel Elliasson on some shit.
They were pretty deep in talks on a Norris/Schenn swap last season.Listening to 32 thoughts and while talking about Schenn, mentioned Ottawa inquired about him last year.
Potential target this year ?
Norris for Schenn would help us with the cap and term, but Schenn isn't as good as Norris on the dot, PK, and will be declining. I'd be open to acquiring him but feel like we should get another piece in return. They were pretty deep in talks on a Norris/Schenn swap last season.
Makes some sense. Schenn has a shorter contract and is only owed 14.8M over the next 3 seasons, which is pretty nice. The Senators are going to be stretched extremely thin as the cap blasts past 100M USD.
Schenn is also much more durable and he's won a Cup which is something Staios clearly prioritized last off-season. His full-NTC is likely a major stumbling block.
Deal around Norris and Zub for Schenn and ParaykoNorris for Schenn would help us with the cap and term, but Schenn isn't as good as Norris on the dot, PK, and will be declining. I'd be open to acquiring him but feel like we should get another piece in return.
Luke Schenn does not have a lot to give, he is barely hanging on now, and at 2.75.I still think Luke Schenn has a lot to give. I understand that him being a right handed D might be a problem, but I'd still like to see what he could do on a true shutdown pair with Hamonic.
In his best year, Sherwood got 27 points in 68 games which ironically is the same number of points that Amadio got while he was in VGK. He doesn’t seem like a top six player. I can see the idea that he might be a better option than some of current bottom six players, but it seems unlikely he would fill our current need for a big (larger) boost in scoring.Sherwood isn't like the others though and would actually be excellent in our system and be a great boost to bottom 6, and even be useful in the top 6 giving more space for Timmy to work with for example.
Schenn & Parayko both have No Trade Clauses (NTC) & NTCs require player approval.Deal around Norris and Zub for Schenn and Parayko

Is Garrioche your source here?I think the reason they are attempting a Norris trade in season is to try and improve the roster to not only increase the chances of making the playoffs, but also to do some damage.
They don't have the cap in season to add anybody. The cap situation is a mess. They are almost entirely locked out from making any improvements or additions to the roster. That is why I think we will see Norris moved to acquire 2-3 upgrades throughout the lineup at the expense of downgrading our 2C from Norris to Pinto.
As far as Norris long-term, it's not just about the cap ceiling. It's been highly publicized that the weak Canadian dollar and rising cap is going to be difficult for Canadian teams whose gate income is in Canadian dollars. They might not like the idea of having a 9.5M USD forward with multiple shoulder injuries under his belt. It's not as simple as saying he will just go on LTIR, because there are real dollars involved, even if insurance covers part of it. We don't know for sure that the shoulder wasn't considered a pre-existing condition when he signed, or what level his contract is insured to.
They have apparently been trying to move Norris pretty much since Dorion left. It's doubtful he is an easy player to trade and get value back, otherwise he may have been moved by now. So that points to them really not liking something about keeping Norris.

Hope CLB fall out of the race before the deadline. We really need someone like Olivier.
Canucks fan here.We are cap locked and have depth issues.
I've said this before, but I see it working out like we get 2-3 legitimate NHL players who may or may not be underperforming or redundant, and won't be at all exciting to acquire. The prime motivation of management being to improve the roster in the short term and get out of the liability of the Norris contract in the long term.
If the Islanders are involved with Vancouver, it also opens things up to take someone from the Islanders roster, because Vancouver are going to need to take back more than Dobson to make Pettersson to VAN work.
It could be something like Pettersson for Dobson+Pageau, then Pageau or Chytil+Soucy+Hoglander to Ottawa for Norris a fringe NHLer or two.
Norris and two roster spots is about 9.5M-10M in cap, (Pageau or Chytil)+Soucy+Hoglander is a max of 9.25M.
I am not advocating for that format of a trade, and saying look at this exciting idea - but I think something like that is probably the end result. Vancouver will want to move players with term to take Norris.
Hoglander only has a 1M cap this year and Travis Green would be familiar with him. Curiously enough, he saw bigger minutes as a rookie under Travis Green than he saw under any other coach for his entire career. Green was fired early into his sophomore season. He is not producing for Vancouver, and his 3 year 3M extension kicks in next season. I could see him being an ideal player for both sides because it allows Vancouver to dump cap with term, but his 1M cap hit this year makes it easier for Ottawa to fit him in.
Soucy is rumoured to be available. He has a NTC. Curiously enough, there is a connection there with Mike Yeo, who was head coach when Soucy would have been working his way through the Wild system, and later one of the assistant coaches in Vancouver. So while players usually will not waive for the Senators, if they have some sort of personal connection it's possible that Soucy might trust that coming to Ottawa would be good because the Senators want him and he can play a bigger role than going somewhere else.
Then you add another forward from either the Islanders or Senators. Ideally a center. I brought up Pageau or Chytil (assuming VAN gets a C back from NYI to replace Chytil, and assuming he wasn't their ideal target but they had to take him). But it could be just about anybody under 5M who would be expendable.
tl;dr:
-Norris for 3 roster players no one will be excited about that are cap in/out.
-Hoglander and Green are bros in my fan fiction about this.
-Mike Yeo convinces Soucy that he will get the Hamonic treatment and play 27 minutes a night here.
-Vancouver working with NYI opens up the Senators to take a veteran off the Islanders roster, because they will need to send Vancouver more than Dobson's 5M to take Pettersson's 11.5M cap hit.
Canucks fan here.I really do not understand fascination with Boeser. At all.
Before anyone says 40 goals, 73 points.... yea, his linemate was JT Miller who scored 103 points.
And outside of that season, he never hit 30 any other time. AND he is weak defensively. And he is injury-riddled history himself.
No. Thanks.
Ottawa: Rantanen
Vancouver: Norris
Carolina: Boeser + Ottawa 2nd + Lekkerimaki/Soucy
