Yeah i was just doing the math for trade deadline which included an optimal lineup with Norris. If norris is out past the deadline then it makes things trickier unless we can get Norris to pull a stone/kucherov and come back game 1 of the playoffs
If we get Norris to pull a Kucherov/Stone, I hope we load up on wingers for Stu. Get Kuzmenko from Philly and Nyquist from Nashville, both could be had for draft picks that aren't too high.

With what assets, brother?

Moving a 1st is absolute no go. Moving a 2nd would be dumb as hell since we likely won't have a first and we have a barren cupboard so we need picks.

Only thing we can move is one of our 3rds next year. That'll get us a 3rd liner if we lucky.

I'm just running off good vibes from the weekend wins. I'm unrealistically hoping a 3rd, 4th, and players/prospects that might not be in our long term plans (KBD, Boucher) will get us Kuzmenko or Nyquist. Or even better, hopefully we can move Amadio or Perron (not because they're bad but ebcause I don't expect them to provide full value for their caphits) while acquiring one year rentals that can play on Stu's wing and give us capspace next year

not fully comparable but halls value was apparently less than a 3rd

taylor hall: 24 pts in 46 games (0.52 ppg) in chicago 6 million cap hit
nyquist: 20 pts in 50 games (0.4 ppg), 3.185 million cap hit
kuzmenko: 15 pts in 37 games (0.41 ppg), 5.5 million cap hit

now obviously with the players listed the lower cap hit is a pro, but the production is also lower. How much does the value get bumped up is a question but i dont see it getting bumped up to a 2nd or higher personally

Also keep in mind Chicago retained half on Rantanen just to get said 3rd. I think we can get Nyquist retained for a 3rd.

If the Nucks are willing to take Perron, I'd honestly risk giving up the first in a weak draft and JBD for Boeser. This gives us a ton of cap space in the offseason to further improve our team and re-sign Boeser.

Yeah i think it will be a quiet deadline for us which i’m cool with. Maybe a 3rd line depth scorer and a depth vet defensemen.

If we are targeting top-6 guys it will probably be in the offseason

One of garriochs boys is pumping up donato to Ottawa.

Very very meh. Getting lots of opportunity in Chicago. I wanted to take a flyer on him year ago.

Donato is someone I brought up a while back and would be a very solid add. The cap hit is low and he won’t break the bank in terms of cost, but can play up and down the lineup, C or W, chip in offense, and can skate.

We don’t really have the assets or cap room to make any bigger splashes.

Pass

Donato is the cousin of John Farinacci, who's sister Emma is married to Brady.

He's basically family.
Done deal.

We could certainly do worse but I don't see how he and Amadio make sense in the same lineup. Similar pay, similar historical production, similar ages...

I'd honestly just ride the current team and not make any additions. We just can't afford to bleed any more assets unfortunately.

I agree with that sentiment, but like I said earlier in the thread I think they probably target a player who costs maybe a 2nd round pick.

I can deal with giving up a 3rd. Especially since the FLA 3rd is trending to be one of the last picks of the round with them on top of the division.

I do think that they have to do something to reward the players for stepping up. Donato might be a good option if him and Brady are familiar. I can't see him costing much more than a 3rd. At 2M prorated, it might also take less cap gymnastics to fit him in.

We should send JBD to Vancouver for either Drew Oconnor or Pius Sutter. They'll be throwing in the towel by then and JBD is a good bottom pair fit for them next year.

I think the only guy we need to upgrade on is Highmore & I wouldn't mind seeing Halliday for a few games to see if he could contribute more towards this team. Halliday has been playing really well in Belleville & leads the team in scoring, he deserves a callup soon.

Ostapchuk - Halliday - Gaudette

When we are healthy Gaudette and Highmore will be out of the lineup.

Tkachuk - Stu - Giroux
Perron - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Amadio
Cousins - Ostapchuk - Gregor
Gaudette

I think if you can add a guy like Donato/Tanev for a late pick you do that and you send Amadio to the 4th line and rotate Gregor in and oout of the lineup with whoever isn’t playing well.

But yea I agree with you we need a forward here. imI don’t think the solution will be found internally.
