karlsson isn't even that good a pp quarter back so i doubt teams are looking to get him specifically for that.

they would get him for his 5 on 5 playmaking, which frankly is something we could use pretty badly. especially if getting a winger for Stutzle is hard.

Sanderson-Zub
Chabot-Jensen
Kleven-Karlsson

is pretty solid though.

like which pairing would be the best on any given night?

but i don't think he is coming. Yakemchuk is ready next year so our RD is set for the long term. we prob re up Jensen too since he has become an important part of the teams new culture.

I think we make Karlsson work with retention, if not at the deadline, then in the summer when we have room.

For those worried about the chemistry, what chemistry? We can't find any forward lines that work for more than a few games, can't score on the PP and have barely any offense from the back end. We'll be fine.

Norris + ??

Problem is I really doubt he wants to come here.
He might be as desperate for a chance of scenery too, with everything that's happened over the last year or so. If the price is Norris and a light-medium plus, you do it. I hate to lose Norris, but his health is still at question, his production likely can't match Miller's too. Vancouver also got dealt a shitty hand and they'll be taking a hit of the return.

f*** the room room is bad in VaN and they still have a better record than us

Need skill something Ottawa severely lacks these days.

I’d offer up Batherson for Miller.
I read he would waive for a few American teams in the north east only, and would consider Florida.

Not too mention cap wise, that trade doesn’t work.

Miller is 31 and has 5 years left at $8/m. I am not exactly sure what the deal in terms of the issues he is having in Van. It seems to me like he is an emotional player who really wants to win and has a low threshold for what he sees as a lack of passion/drive. This is not necessarily a bad thing unless in this case where your top paid player (E Petersson) is maybe a little more laid back and I think is what has created the conflict. I don't see this being an issue because it seems to me that players like Tkachuk & Stutzle and others in Ottawa have that same drive. It is the fact that he is 31 and 5 years @ $8m that would be the concern.
I would be more inclined to go after Boeser, who is only 27 but is going to be UFA, so a deal would need to be worked out.

Given how people perceive our room, that seems like the wrong player to bring in. He will want a trade again in a week.

There are multiple teams in on him that he already has presumably waived for or would waive for. We don't seem to be one of them. Vancouver was already apparently offered a package with a 1st from the Rangers, which is probably the best they can hope for when dealing a disgruntled player with a NMC.

Ignoring speculation about his fit in our room (based on the many hours I have spent in our locker room in NHL 25), I think when you consider the risk of his age+term, that would be offset by the risk of the injury history of Norris. Ironically, Norris has already had a greater decline at a younger age than JT Miller. So unless we have an offer for a team to take Norris off of our hands without sending cap back, moving out Norris for Miller offsets any risk since we're already moving a risky asset.

Again, while it's fun to speculate about everything (Karlsson, Miller, etc), I don't think it's remotely realistic to expect him to waive for Ottawa. I also don't think Vancouver is in a scenario where the market will fall out on them and they would have to beg him to waive for Ottawa.

Hopefully Perron can help out Stu. He is too slow to support Stu on the rush but once in the zone Perron is pretty good at finding soft spots and bothering the goalie.

We still need to address anothe scoring winger with speed. Assets I’d move depending on the age, contract and quality of the winger are Top 16 protected 1st, Norris, Greig or Pinto.

Perron is experienced enough to be in a position where other teams have to respect his presence which might open up space for Stu to get a nice shot off or they leave Perron unprotected who definitely can pot a few. Eager to get him into the line up!

Deadline Deal:
To Utah: Sogaard G & JBD RD
To Ott: Nick Bjugstad C/RW - (UFA, $2.1 mil, 32 yrs old, 6'5" - 205 lbs, 45 pt season last yr)

Utah - get 2 depth players that could fill in for the 4 UFA defencemen & 1 goalie they could lose
Ott - get an affordable player that can move up & down the lineup, he plays two positions, brings some size & scoring & makes Ott bigger down the middle.

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Stutzle - Pinto - Gaudette
Greig - Bjugstad - Giroux
Cousins - Ostapchuk - Amadio/Perron

Chabot - Jensen
Sanderson - Zub
Kleven - Mantipalo/Hamonic

Ullmark - Forsberg/Merilainen

Decent, realistic player to target for all the reasons you listed. Good proposal.

Bjugstad's value at the TDL is likely around a mid third round pick. I think JBD + Sogaard are probably worth about that to Utah but are they worth that or more to us?

Considering JBD is a viable cost controlled 3/4 RD who maybe still has some untapped potential I'm not sure I would value him less than a third round pick. Sogaard I am ready to throw into any deal if for no other reason than to give him a fresh start.

I'd rather part with Sogaard + a third if my valuation of JBD is accurate. That said, if Matinpalo cements himself here to the end than that frees up JBD a bit and if the market is tight for depth players with playoff experience and size than JBD could be a fair price to pay.

I'm a no just because we have come this far with JBD and his cap hit might be useful for one more year while we see if he's anything more than a #7 guy.

If Eric Karlsson is traded, I suspect it will be a team near the bottom of the league with a lot of cap space. That team will likely want a first round draft pick too.

I think Pittsburgh wants to rebuild and don’t want any long term bad contracts back.

I'd be down with Bjugstad, but there's no way Stutzle plays wing no matter how many times you try to make it happen, lol.

I'm also not sure we can make it work cap wise, 22 man roster would come out just over the cap, so no room for callups, we could send down Matinpalo, Gaudette or Ostapchuk.

Keeping JBD would mean running with 8 D, or sending Matinpalo back down (I think he's been our 6th best D, but small sample). Cap wise I don't think we can make it work with 8 D,

JBD is disposable.

Bjugstad would be a great get.

We are going to have to find a way to move on from Perron. Giroux will be our Perron type player next year.

We need a Tuch type or Buchnevic or Bjorkstrand or two.

Norris - Stutzle - Buchnevich
Tkachuk - Pinto - Batherson
Greig - Bjugstad - Giroux
Cousins - Ostapchuk - Amadio

I see conversation cycling back to Erik Karlsson yet again. There’s obviously nostalgia at work here, but EK is not the same player he was when he played with the Senators. He hasn’t been particularly impressive in every game I’ve watched in the last 2 years, and he still gets paid a lot.

I lot of trade ideas that you see here wouldn’t be feasible because of the salary cap. These back of napkin roster & cap calculations are frequently flawed because they don’t include buy-out & retained salaries, and carry less than a 22/23 player roster. And, they often contain very optimistic assumptions of cap hits for UFA players and new contracts for our RFAs.

I don’t think offering players like Sogaard and/or JBD are going to return anything as well except maybe a 7D or 13F which amounts to negligible improvement.

i dont believe we can trade jbd while he is injured. I do agree that he doesnt have much of a future here but i dont think we can get value since he wont be back until after the trade deadline potentially
