So so so thisCarrier would have been an absolute steal, would have helped shore up the D for the next few years. I have really liked him for a long time.
Easier said than done of course, he's not making too much, and is a steal at his contract, but in season with where the Sens are it would have been near impossible to make happen.
Montreal had an absolute bullseye. I have absolutely no clue what Trotz was doing, Carrier would have returned an absolute haul last year at the deadline, at least a late 1st + some ammo.
Those are the unsung hero's, the ~20 minute a night guys who are steady and shore up the D.
He is from Quebec and had just re-signed as a UFA. No noise leading up to it. Would not be at all surprised if this was just Trotz letting him pick where he wanted to play and taking their best offer.
I believe the PA can ask for a 3rd party doctor to evaluate the player. I believe I read this in the CBA (I have a copy on my computer). How long did Kucherov and Stone “skate” for before being taken off LTIR? Jani Hakanpaa has been skating in Toronto since October.
You could make Perron go on LTIR for the rest of the year, and then make moves. That’s an option available to the team. It was available to them for the last several weeks. It would just require them getting Perron on board.
There’s no neutral arbitrator who decides when players are healthy to play. It’s up to the team and the player.
At this point, they’ve just chosen not to do it. But you act like it’s some sort of impossibility.
The reality is he hasn’t taken a full practice yet, so he very well may not play again. It’s a back injury. He’s 37. And hockey has body contact.
I guess we'll probably never know, but it does seem like something was up. Strange move if not. Given how bad they are this year, I can see it being a soft request to go to his other preferred UFA destination if a deal can be worked out.Only plausible scenario that makes any sense to me, but he probably should have just kept him. I really don't see the rush to move him out, but maybe there's more to the story.
I could be wrong but I think the Senators could offer Brannstrom less than his QO and he had the option of accepting it. The QO is what the Senators would have to offer to retain his rights. We do not know what the negotiations were between the Senators and Brannstrom. Brannstrom could have rejected a lower offer from the Senators. His QO was 2mil when he was an RFA for the Sens, so that was the minimum amount they could offer him. I’m pretty sure he’s signed as a UFA with the Avs at league minimum. So there’s more incentive to grab him under these terms. It’s like having Brannstrom at 900k instead of 2mil+.
Personally, I’m not an advocate for picking him up. But now it’s definitely less of a no-brainer than it was in the summer.

Possible 5-10% less, but not sure if accurate ,I could be wrong but I think the Senators could offer Brannstrom less than his QO and he had the option of accepting it. If the money was equal I would take him over JBD. It would take pressure off of Kleven. It seems that Kleven tries to do too much with the puck sometimes and gets into trouble because he has no other option. If he was playing with Branny he could give him the puck to make a play. It would also change how other teams play him. It's kind of like Sanderson and Hammer. Other teams know Hammer can't move the puck, so they rush Sandy because he has to do it. I'm not a Branny cheerleader, but I respect the kid. He busts his balls and does what is asked of him. He could 100% help Kleven. Kleven developping is the goal. JBD don't help that. Mantipalo was Klevens defence partner in the A last year right? Get him up to speed at the nhl level and it might help. This team does not need Brannstrom geez, why would they want a small soft defencemen who constantly gets owned in his own end. They are playing well they don't need him, they have plenty of better depth.

His QO was 2M.
If qualified, he could have taken the team to arbitration, where he could have gotten more than 2M (but not less). Sens would not have been able to walk away from the ruling unless it exceeded 4.74M.
They could have offered him a contract extension without qualifying him, but he did not have to sign it and would have become a UFA on July 1st.
Boeser doesn’t really make sense here. We don’t have a spot for him on PP1, unless you take Norris off. There’s no sense in paying Boeser 8-9 million and then having him on your second unit, you won’t get the same production. The Sens BIG NEED is a good point producing RW to replace the 37 yr old Giroux who is aging out & most likely retiring within the next yr or two. If Boeser RW does not re-sign in Vancouver Ottawa could be an interesting choice for him to play in a top six spot. Any other good RW players out there in their prime who are potential free agents that would come to Ott?
That's not true they can always make room & move guys around. Not signing a great player in a position you need because he doesn't fit in on PP 1 is simply silly. They need a playmaker on both units & with Giroux leaving they would need to replace him on that second Unit anyway. They could always move Batherson down there who is also a RWer & makes less & would probably make the 2nd unit better which is what we want, two good PP units.Boeser doesn’t really make sense here. If we want to acquire a big point producing winger, we would have to move Norris.
Boeser is not getting 8-9 million, career high is 76 points, and next best season was 56 points.Boeser doesn’t really make sense here. We don’t have a spot for him on PP1, unless you take Norris off. If he’s not on on PP1 he’s going to top out at around ~40-45 points. It’s terrible cap allocation. The way the team is currently built they need guys who can produce well 5v5.That's not true they can always make room & move guys around. I honestly don’t know what he would get, I didn’t think about it too deeply. He wouldn’t sign here anyway imo but I suspect it would be no less than 7 million with the cap going up. Hed have quite a few 60 pt+ seasons if he’d stayed healthy.Boeser is not getting 8-9 million, career high is 76 points, and next best season was 56 points.
First, we don't know what he would want & second, I doubt it would be $9 mil. Who would you want to replace Giroux at RW who would be available, who wouldn't cost us any assets (free agent signing) & is a good point producer? Boeser had 73 pts last season & after being injured earlier this yr has rebounded & is having another good season.I'll go on record that I don't want them giving Brock Boeser 8-9 mil on a long term deal. For a fair bit less, I would maybe be interested.
