Last thread was well over 1k posts.

Calgary beat Chicago tonight 5-2, and are now legitimately in a playoff spot. They've played 42 games & have 49 pts. Vancouver has played 42 games & have 48 pts.

Calgary is officially in WC2, and only 4 pts back of #3 spot in Pacific Division (LAK have 2 games in hand, though).

The one win moves them from pick #16 to pick #19.

They are also only 4 pts back of Florida and have 2 games in hand, which means it's possible we get Florida’s pick, but that will also depend how far they get in the playoffs again, too.

I'm definitely rooting for the Canucks to get it together.

THIS is the most bonkers part of it...FLA probably feeling some playoff hangovers...hopefully CGY falls back down to earth at some point.

Florida with a bad loss to the Flyers tonight, they still have a 4 point gap from the bulk of teams 'in the mix' but these young teams like CLB, DET, OTT, and us are all playing really well. They don't have much cushion and there's lotsssss of hockey left to play.

I'd put money on the young teams having way more juice in the home stretch than Florida will, they've played a ton of hockey over the last 2 years.

Add to that the 4 Nations is gonna have Barkov, Tkachuk, Bennett, Reinhart, Forsling, Lundell, Luostarinen, and Mikkola and that won't help heavy legs. I was shocked how many they have going, that's like half the team.

I'm still calling for Florida to miss the playoffs. I'm committed to the call, gonna ride and die with it.

...Calgary is playing some competitive hockey, but they aren't a playoff team, imo...no need to worry...
You do need to worry lol. The race for the playoff spot in the West is weak. Only Vancouver and Calgary are fighting for the last place vs 6-7 teams in the East. Vancouver are from being a powerhouse this year. They can miss the playoff.

That what winning the Stanley cup does to players reputation in the league. They are seen as ''winners''. I agreed that Panthers players must be tired.

Am I the only one not giving a hell where the pick is gonna end lol. It's gonna be 15+ anyways
I still remember how frustrating it was following the Panthers 2 years ago hoping they would start losing and miss the playoffs. Of course the complete opposite happened and the pick ended up being a whole lot of nothing. Never again.

We only 9 points back of Florida with 2 games in hand

Habs still have 3 games to play against them too.
No idea if they will continue as a .500 team for much longer, but if they do they risk being out of the playoffs...and in that case we really need Calgary to start losing.

I love having the pick. We probably try to trade down again to get a target like Hage again. It's a pick we can use in a trade or we can reinforce our pool even stronger by adding a grade A. Further giving us future options to get in on a trade. Our trade to improve the team could happen now, TDL, Draft, Summer, or even 2026 TDL.

I'd say both the Flames/Panthers 1st and the Habs 1st is likely close. We are talking 10-18 range more likely. Right now, it's picks 14 and 19. There are some grade A prospects to get in that range for sure.

Panthers really dug deep in the 2nd half that season to reach the playoffs. Their roster was more complete than it is today though. Two big pieces missing on that back end IMO... Montour and OEL. The D core today is their weak spot but their goaltending and forwards are going to carry them.

What's to worry about? The difference between the 18th pick and 13-15 range pick? Something like that?

Well we all want the Calgary pick to be around 11-12. In every draft, you always have a good top 10 players getting drafted outside of the top 10 (kinda like Sam Dickinson last year). This could be Habs last year of tanking.

The best outcome for us is to draft around 11-12 with Calgary pick.

With 40 games left, a lot can happen but unless they totally fall apart and say go 0-10 at some point, it's already going to be very difficult for them to fall into the top 6 as of today. So that leaves at best 4 spots with about 14 teams that could all end up there.

The Wings and Habs are hot now but will that last, NYR starting to climb back up, will they be able to get it going? I don't trust the Sens, Jackets, blues, flyers, Utah as I would assume those teams suck (I barely watch the NHL though) so are Flames worse then those teams? There are so many crap teams and I bet next year will be the same as I got to think teams are already looking to tank hard for the next McDavid.

Flames were mostly carried by goaltending and a great home record earlier in the season, but couldn't score. They seems to have fixed some of their scoring issues now thought. And hard to compare West/East teams, the East has a lot more parity going on.

Agree best outcome is Calgary 11st and Habs pick 32
