How about something like

Forsberg + 3rd 2026 (we have 3) -> Jeff Skinner @60% + Pickard.

Similar caphits but we get an extra player for the top 9 and a 1M backup for next year.

Pass. Wouldn’t take Skinner for free let alone give up an asset. Also a team can only retain 50%.
Besides the retain 50% point, Skinner also has a NMC.

Also, do the Oilers think Forsberg is better than Pickard? I have no idea, but I’d think that would be a necessary condition to motivate them to consider this trade.

Expiring deals after the season :

Giroux 6.5 AAV
Forsberg 2.75 AAV
Hamonic 1.1 AAV
Cousins 0.8 AAV
Gaudette 0.775 AAV
Reinhardt 0.775 AAV

RFAs : Greig, Gregor, Kleven, JBD, Merilainen (we re-sign them all except maybe Gregor)

1) Can we re-sign Giroux in a lesser role (3rd line) for around 3.5 AAV?

2) We let Forsberg and Hamonic walk

3) Cousins could brought back if still cheap and things continue to mesh well

4) Gaudette is a wildcard, nice to have as depht scoring but can't overpay for that type of player. I'd propose him 3 years x 1.5 AAV see if he bites for the term

5) Reinhardt is a keeper for the 4th line, should continue to be cheap

RFAs shouldn't command too much of a raise so we might save a few millions with the above and also with the cap rising but we'll need a defenseman who can play a bit everywhere and a top-6 Winger

I think we'll also need to find a way to get rid of these 2 contracts :

Perron 4.0 AAV
Amadio 2.6 AAV

Who agrees with all this?

Amadio is fine. That Perron contract is annoying to have on the books if we want to improve the team next year. It's only one year left but we'll probably need to attach a pick like with Joseph to get rid of the contract.

I expect us to extend Reinhardt soon. He is a UFA upon expiry and should jump at the chance for security and NHL money with a team that clearly likes him. I would try to get him on a similar contract as MacEwen.

As an aside, I would have no interest in moving Amadio. More important than most seem to realize and I think he can bring a lot to a playoff run.

Sogaard for Primeau might make sense for all four parties at this point. Except, Montreal might not be crazy about Sogaard having a second year at 1-way money.

It would be a change of scenery for both players. The Senators need goalie depth. The Senators couldn't just claim Primeau, because he would require waivers when Forsberg and Ullmark return. Now, he is waiver exempt.
Had this same thought. Habs wont care about 1-way money in the AHL, though, especially since Primeau is currently on a 1-way deal himself. They also have RHP (1.1m), Barre-Boulet (750k), Gignac (350k), Lindstrom (275k), and Condotta (225k) expiring.

I think we need to optimize the Top-9 as much as possible and Amadio IMO is not good enough, at least offensively, to be in my Top-9 and that is too much money for the 4th line. Ideally, my 3rd line would be Greig-Pinto-Giroux

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
?????? - Stutzle - ??????
Greig - Pinto - Giroux
Reinhardt - Ostapchuk - ??????

Where do you fit Amadio? Where do you create enough cap space to give Stutzle some wingers? I like Gaudette and Perron but we'll need more than that if we ever hope to become a contender

Gaudette and Perron would be a funny thing to try with Stutzle in those spots…
Both absolutely shooters, while Jimmy can do all the puck carrying, dangling, and playmaking!

I was just thinking that both Edmonton and Skinner may want to make a move and realize that not many teams would want him at full price. This would be a way to keep their remaining cap space and get a pick in return.

Put Batherson with Stu, then more balanced in your scenario.

Skinner doesn't have much reason to waive his NMC. He is 33 years old at the end of the season, so the sun is already setting on his career. It's not a situation where he didn't get a chance in Edmonton. Going to another team isn't a lock to prolong his career, but staying in Edmonton with a NMC keeps him on the roster of a cup contender, even if the role is different than what he likely hoped it could be when he signed.

No, we need better than that. Gaudette has surprised early but he is NOT a Top-6 forward, only 2 assists in his last 9 games. Perron will be 37 y/o next season.

I don't want to barely make the playoffs, I want to win playoffs rounds and hopefully a Cup.

Yeah but Tkachuk-Norris also need Batherson BADLY.

Keep in mind this is for next season. Putting Batherson with Stutzle, you still have 2 Top-6 holes.

ok so so the solution is to have one gigantic hole on both lines instead of having one first line and a 2nd line with holes? ok
Yes better balance, makes more sense.
If not let’s go Brady Timmy and Drake then if you want to stack a line.

On the road I kind of like 3 lines of pairs , with more balance, when don’t have last change.

But that's the thing, having one stacked line in 2025 is not a recipe for success, we need a full Top-6 or a well balanced Top-9

exactly, now you’re coming round to my side of thinking originally, going with pairs and balance the lines, as opposed to Brady Josh and Drake as you suggested, and Tim with the leftovers.

lol no, you're just losing the plot a little bit

This is what I posted. I also said "I like Gaudette and Perron but we'll need more than that"

It means : WE NEED 2 NEW WINGERS.

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
?????? - Stutzle - ??????

That's why I suggested that we need to lower Giroux salary and get rid of Perron/Amadio
