To be fair it was the Beckett Sennecke pick that did it for us Pat Verbeek is the one to thank.
That back was not supposed to be an issue and Lindstrom went where most people thought he would.
Not that I was for drafting a kid with back problems.
Demidov should have been drafted 2nd overall. So you can thanks, Chicago, Anaheim and Columbus. The reason he dropped is basically for a mix of these 3 reasons: Russian, position and size.

I felt he was the better far more complete player when I finally got to see him in the KHL.
If they went into a re-draft today I'm fairly certain which player most teams would opt for.
Yes what people are missing is how great he is at both side of the ice, kind of a Datsyuk type of player while Michkov is more in the Kucherov type.

If Columbus took the deal of their 2024 1st for Chicago's 2025 unprotected 1st, Demidov would be a Hawk and Lindstrom might be a hab

Funny how the Michkov fanboys on the main boards had fits when we dared to compare Demidov to him

He might even be better.

He's better for us.. we got Caufield and Laine. We need more puck dominant, zone entry, creative forwards. Michkov is a silent assassin.

Nah, Sennecke f***ing rules and we would have been happy to have him at 5 if the draft fell that way.

Lindstrom's back didn't heal in a great way so it was a big gamble but we know Timmins can't shy away from big centers.

The slow way Celine Dion announced the pick and builds up anticipation right before she announces "Ivan Demidov" is chef's kiss.

I was more nervous during that pick announcement than the birth of my son.

Yeah, I was cool with Senneke too.

“He’s a bona fide superstar, who will arrive in Montreal and immediately make an impact,” he said, adding he thought it wouldn’t take long for the Russian dynamo to become the Canadiens’ best player if he didn’t immediately start on that foot by next fall.

“We had eyes on him ahead of the draft, and we were blown away,” he said. “He’s the complete package.”
