I'm not hoping. It's a necessity. At least if Ottawa wants to make the playoffs.

Kleven-JBD might not make some AHL team's top pair. They're not fit enough to be a regular bottom pair. We need someone experienced.

And that 4th line is atrocious. The NHL is about depth. We need it in spades and it starts with minimum another 4th line (on the higher end like Cousins) and a another bottom pair (on the higher end like Shatty).
We need lots of things & improvements. We were 13th worst in Goals For/Game. We’ll need a lot more from players in top of our lineup as well like Stutzle and Norris who we hope will be healthy.

We’ll need a better season from Chabot and hopefully better health. Hopefully, our 2nd pairing will be more effective & steady. Note, that again, is not the bottom or our lineup. We were tied for 5th worst GA/G last year.

We have $3.6 m of cap space currently and will need another 2 (for a meager 21-player roster) or 3 players (for a 22-player roster). So, it's not like we have big dollars to throw around at more expensive players as well.

Top 5 protected 2025 first, turns into a 2027 1st if we finish bottom 5. Florida did similar with the tank 4th rounder, they didn't have a 2024 or 2025 3rd they were willing or able to give us so the condition was for a 2026 pick.

i would do this, fits what we are trying to do from a play style and timeline.
Hope we are in on him.

Too much. Give them a second round pick and JBD for Rutger McGroarty.

Winnipeg hangs up the phone on that offer. They might as well get the compensatory 2nd rounder by keeping him.

How is it too much ? We'd be lucky to draft a forward like McGroarty with our next 1st. Especially if we're contending for a wild card spot. I would have been happy if we took him at 7 where CHI took Korchinski, it's very fair getting a blue chip forward on a ELC and fits into our goal of exiting the rebuild into competing now vs using the pick next year.

The accelerated timeline of getting a developed guy is huge as well.

Yakemchuk for McGroarty and a 3rd or a prospect... No need to trade a top 5 protected pick.

We seem to have some improved RD depth in the system now.

No shot. None of these guys are even in the same stratosphere as Yakemchuk

Didn’t they just sign him last night?

Also isn’t he decent bottom pair guy.

Agreed on their upside on D... but you are not trading for one of them

I here from Dev Camp reports that Hoyt Stanley out performed Yakemchuk by a fair margin
