OK, thanks. So, it doesn’t sound like there’s any real info or insight on Green’s thinking.

If it's just someone speculating & offering hypotheticals, I guess I/we can just wait until something more tangible & concrete happens.
Or we can continue to speculate

I mean, he is also the guy that drafted Yakemchuk so he seems to like that archetype at least a little.

Or, the organization figures it already has a big, right-shot, offensive-leaning defenceman with questions around skating and defensive play and decides we're not going to break the bank to acquire another one.

I'll point to Chychrun for Jensen again. With that trade, Staois showed that he likes balanced pairs, not too much of the same thing.

Also was a UFA with only 1 year remaining on his contract and not appearing to be too happy in Ottawa by the end. Doesn't seem simply like a black and white player evaluation with other circumstances also playing a factor.

How can the Sens clear enough cap to sign Rantanen? That's what I want to know!

I know your post is a bit tongue in cheek, because we all know that he is never signing here. There are ways to clear cap if he would sign here, but it would decimate our depth.

If we go after Rantanen, the only way I could see it making sense is if we make a Kawhi Leonard type trade. As in, we call up Colorado tomorrow and propose that since they cannot afford to extend Rantanen, and they aren't going to trade him while trying to win, we give them Batherson for Rantanen with retained salary. The end result is that it is cap in/cap out this year, and while no one in their right mind would trade Rantanen for Batherson, 1 year of Rantanen for 3 years of Batherson (with 2 of those years being well below market value) might make sense.

For Ottawa, it would be a move where they know Tkachuk is gone if they miss the playoffs, so they give up a cost controlled fan favourite in Batherson for 1 year of Rantanen, who is a major upgrade. If they are well out of the playoffs at the deadline, they can flip him for a 1st++.

Well, Chychrun was our third LHD, and he was due for a massive raise, we traded him for a RHD. There wasn't a RHD version of Chychrun available so it's hard to say what we would have done if that option was there. All we really know is we wanted a RHD

I don't see Jiricek as a break the bank acquisition, if the cost is too high, move on, I also see him as more of a two way guy, at least in terms of his potential.

If Jenner is uninsured, that might be a smart way for the Senators to both get a discount, and add a veteran for next season without having to give up term like they did with Perron.

With the injuries we have, we are probably going to end up in LTIR eventually anyways so adding a 2nd LTIR contract won't make a difference for our calculations.

Something like Norris+2nd for Jiricek, but the Senators take both Jenner and Merzlikins and send Columbus Forsberg who is cheaper than Merzlikins and isn't tied to a bad long-term contract.

That makes Norris almost cash in/cash out for this season and the two after that.

Or something like Greig or Greig+draft pick for Jiricek, and the Sens simply take Jenner as a consolation to get a better deal on Jiricek. Dumping Jenner if he is uninsured is probably worth a high 2nd (look at Zaitsev to CHI, he had similar money+term). Jenner is out for the season, so we would place him and Zub on LTIR, and then hope Jenner can be healthy next year.
So many people want Norris traded but why? Worried that his shoulder issues will re-surface? Taransenko also had 3 surgeries where the 3rd surgery by the same surgeon finally resolved it. Why is it so hard to believe that won't be the case for Norris as well?

The only forwards with more goals than Norris are Brady (where 6 of his 5 goals are on the PP) and Gaudette at 11. The only forwards with more ES goals are Stu and Gaudette. Norris is also on the PK and great in the F/O circle. Pinto's been terrible lately, Greig not much better. So who exactly is going to replace his production, F/O prowess and PK time?

Sandy isn't exactly an offensive Dman so could be the perfect fit where Sandy is the solid D man, something he's usually very good at.

I would think that Columbus might be more interested in upgrading their goaltending than acquiring a centre. They have Monahan, Fantilli, Sillinger and Kuraly down the middle so I don't see that as their primary need. Like a lot of teams they should have signed Lankinen.

We are in a tough spot. I really with we could tell Perron to be at home with his family for the rest of the season and non-injury LTIR him for the cap space. He’s just not in it this season.

I preface this by saying I think Norris has been our 4th best player this year behind Brady, Jimmy and Drake, but…

Norris for Trouba
Ostapchuk and a pick+prospect for O’Reilly

And yes, I know Trouba has his NTC (which I doubt we’re on), his wife is a doctor and he might not like coming back to Canada - but he’s exactly what our defence (and Brady) needs.

Our defense needs to suck even more?

Que......The part you wrote about Perron I was thinking the exact same thing. It would be neat if players that were having some kind of "family issue" could take a leave from the team. He was a player that they were probably hoping could produce around 50 points and I think we might be lucky to get 20 points of production from him this year.

I'm pretty sure he can go on personal leave, but we just wouldn't get any cap relief from it.

Honestly, if his head isn't in the game right now (and his family does need him), it might be best for him to take some time off. Staios can figure out the cap part of it.

His elbow alone has an hockey IQ of 150!

I think the team would benefit greatly if someone took a lot of the “he-man macho-ism” off of Brady. Tall order, tough task. He’s one of the few players in the league that qualify.

Hard not to both.

This so total Bullshit about the Brady Tkachuk thing

Elliot Freidman, LOSP, Shawn z Simpson all wake up this morning to rekindle shitting in the fans for being frustrated with this team - it’s a set up to deflect from the crappy job the team is doing with their rebuild from the summer signings to the first 20 games, they are the e 6th worst team in the NHL after 22 games - f*** OFF

If the team doesn’t want to trade Brady and wants to end the rumours - Staois goes on HNIC and says “under no circumstances are we trading Brady a takchuk” and it’s over. End of story. But he won’t do that because that’s not what is happening

this isn’t about not trading Brsdy Takchuk, the team floated trading Norris last week during this uproar, they looked into trading Chabot last year, Pinto to Philly, Churchryn, both goalies

And highly connected people outside of this Sens fans - the biggest voices in hockey started these rumours last year - don’t gas light us

Being a Sens fan is being shit on every week because there is no respect for this fanbase in the NHL - they belittle us on HNIC, they have our own journalists turn on us, horrible ownership, crappy arena, and now Elliot Friedman is telling us how to fan - f*** off all of you

It’s always interesting to me how hard PR works anytime anything Brady related happens.

Anyone else gets critiqued or has trade rumors about them, it’s crickets. With Brady the GM, or the coach, or everyone in the media has to opine on it.

I think everyone with common sense knows that 95% of the fanbase doesn’t want Brady to be traded. They could have easily just said nothing and it would’ve fizzled out like everything else does.

Have you ever wonder why you personally feel disrespected? I don’t feel disrespected as a Sens fan, but I also know that none of the push back from players, coaches, GMs, owners, writers, other fans, is directed at me. I tend to agree that the online freak out fan persona is embarrassing (our fans that do this, along with those from all other fanbases).

It’s their way of telling some fans to chill out, and I agree. No one cares about the bullshit pain and suffering of watching a sports team do this and that for 7 years. You’re watching TV, think about that.

The point is that some folks should chill their real live emotions about a game. If you’re this emotionally invested that you constantly lose your shit over watching these sporting events that you can’t control, that’s a personal issue that should really be explored.

All of that emotional energy could/should be put towards something that you actually have agency over, that could have a positive effect on your life, and on the lives around you, but instead…..

Come on now, why not spend all of that energy trying to live your best life in the limited time you have, and leave only the trimmings of that authentic emotional investment, to sport watching.

It is my opinion that we should fight back from letting industries like this make us miserable, while also taking our money. To stop this from happening we do need to do our part and either walk when things make us feel bad, or at the very least only extract what little enjoyment we can, and spend the rest of our emotional capital elsewhere.

Very difficult task I know, as things are pretty bleak in most directions we look.

It has nothing to do with telling fans to chill out imo. Fans will never chill out and they’ve been around the sport long enough to know that.

It’s an attempt to control the narrative, I don’t think Tuna99 is wrong about that.

Weird take given some seem to take it as a major personal affront that maybe the team would be better off over the next 2-5 years if they traded Brady Tkachuk.

A lot of projection going around this place in recent months after yet another meltdown in November. 4th one in a row with the same captain.

Wanting change at this point is normal. Losing your shit over the mere idea Brady Tkachuk might need to go is not.

Haha no article. Friedman was also pretty tame, he just said that criticism is fine but if it’s a sign of growing discontentment with Brady be careful what you wish for. And then reiterated everyone gets criticized etc.

I was referring to Staios jumping to address the Tkachuk rumours last year, Green going to bat for Brady after the Vancouver game etc. Just noting they really don’t do this with anyone else.

I think the writing on the wall is just obvious ie if we miss the playoffs again this year Brady is probably on his way out.
