OK, thanks. So, it doesn’t sound like there’s any real info or insight on Green’s thinking.

If it's just someone speculating & offering hypotheticals, I guess I/we can just wait until something more tangible & concrete happens.
Or we can continue to speculate

I mean, he is also the guy that drafted Yakemchuk so he seems to like that archetype at least a little.

Or, the organization figures it already has a big, right-shot, offensive-leaning defenceman with questions around skating and defensive play and decides we're not going to break the bank to acquire another one.

I'll point to Chychrun for Jensen again. With that trade, Staois showed that he likes balanced pairs, not too much of the same thing.

Also was a UFA with only 1 year remaining on his contract and not appearing to be too happy in Ottawa by the end. Doesn't seem simply like a black and white player evaluation with other circumstances also playing a factor.

How can the Sens clear enough cap to sign Rantanen? That's what I want to know!

I know your post is a bit tongue in cheek, because we all know that he is never signing here. There are ways to clear cap if he would sign here, but it would decimate our depth.

If we go after Rantanen, the only way I could see it making sense is if we make a Kawhi Leonard type trade. As in, we call up Colorado tomorrow and propose that since they cannot afford to extend Rantanen, and they aren't going to trade him while trying to win, we give them Batherson for Rantanen with retained salary. The end result is that it is cap in/cap out this year, and while no one in their right mind would trade Rantanen for Batherson, 1 year of Rantanen for 3 years of Batherson (with 2 of those years being well below market value) might make sense.

For Ottawa, it would be a move where they know Tkachuk is gone if they miss the playoffs, so they give up a cost controlled fan favourite in Batherson for 1 year of Rantanen, who is a major upgrade. If they are well out of the playoffs at the deadline, they can flip him for a 1st++.

Well, Chychrun was our third LHD, and he was due for a massive raise, we traded him for a RHD. There wasn't a RHD version of Chychrun available so it's hard to say what we would have done if that option was there. All we really know is we wanted a RHD

I don't see Jiricek as a break the bank acquisition, if the cost is too high, move on, I also see him as more of a two way guy, at least in terms of his potential.

If Jenner is uninsured, that might be a smart way for the Senators to both get a discount, and add a veteran for next season without having to give up term like they did with Perron.

With the injuries we have, we are probably going to end up in LTIR eventually anyways so adding a 2nd LTIR contract won't make a difference for our calculations.

Something like Norris+2nd for Jiricek, but the Senators take both Jenner and Merzlikins and send Columbus Forsberg who is cheaper than Merzlikins and isn't tied to a bad long-term contract.

That makes Norris almost cash in/cash out for this season and the two after that.

Or something like Greig or Greig+draft pick for Jiricek, and the Sens simply take Jenner as a consolation to get a better deal on Jiricek. Dumping Jenner if he is uninsured is probably worth a high 2nd (look at Zaitsev to CHI, he had similar money+term). Jenner is out for the season, so we would place him and Zub on LTIR, and then hope Jenner can be healthy next year.
So many people want Norris traded but why? Worried that his shoulder issues will re-surface? Taransenko also had 3 surgeries where the 3rd surgery by the same surgeon finally resolved it. Why is it so hard to believe that won't be the case for Norris as well?

The only forwards with more goals than Norris are Brady (where 6 of his 5 goals are on the PP) and Gaudette at 11. The only forwards with more ES goals are Stu and Gaudette. Norris is also on the PK and great in the F/O circle. Pinto's been terrible lately, Greig not much better. So who exactly is going to replace his production, F/O prowess and PK time?

Sandy isn't exactly an offensive Dman so could be the perfect fit where Sandy is the solid D man, something he's usually very good at.

I would think that Columbus might be more interested in upgrading their goaltending than acquiring a centre. They have Monahan, Fantilli, Sillinger and Kuraly down the middle so I don't see that as their primary need. Like a lot of teams they should have signed Lankinen.
