Doubt it. Preds already have 3 firsts and 2 seconds next year - they're in win now(ish) mode with those signings. They need to improve their bottom 6 fwds and bottom 3 D in a bad way (Lauzon getting top 4 minutes is not a recipe for success), plus Sissons and Novak are hurt so they are weak down the middle. If anything, Trotz is likely to be the one dealing draft picks this year despite him stating he'll let the young guys play. The Sens could likely cash in on that if they wanted to, but to what benefit?
One potential benefit could be improving our D core by adding a big, strong, physical defenceman to upgrade from Hamonic and JBD.

The only way we will get an upgrade on D would be if we get lucky with a low-cost acquisition or waiver claim, like we did with Demelo as a throw in as part of the Karlsson return.

Look at what San Jose gave up for Liljegren. It's a sellers market right now. Nobody is available. We also have very little cap space.

I don't know if I'd characterize the Liljegren return as evidence of a sellers market.

If anything I thought a 25YR old RD averaging 30P/82GP the last 3 years without top unit PP time going for only a 3rd was surprisingly cheap.

We couldn't afford Liljegren's 3M salary, but that was a no brainer for San Jose IMO.

Another good risk/reward move from Greir, who appears to be doing a bang up job for them.

I wonder if Staios' finger is inching toward the trade button.
I am not saying at 1-3 in November he makes a trade tomorrow....but...if they go to 1-4 or 1-5...I think you have to be very seriously thinking about a trade to shake things up.
I think a trade for a defenseman could also be a possibility as well.
Just watching the LA Kings tonight vs Canucks.
Byfield
Lafrerriere
Fiala
Could we make a trade for one of these players?

Not without giving up Brady

This will be taken as hate but it's obvious who should be traded.

We still need to compete, so we need the best return possible.

And we need to change the whole vibe of the franchise too, make it less about bffs and more about professionals coming to work to win.

You trade Brady and it is very likely that someone will give way more value to us than Brady actually gives us on the ice.

Like if we got Peterka + Quinn back. We would win more games than just with Brady.

2nd trading Brady is the biggest system shock we can make.

It would be a new chapter.

I don’t see a big trade coming. Staois is preaching patience and we’ve missed key pieces already this season like we have in every season for the past 4 years. Pinto and Perron coming back and hopefully healthy will make a difference. Zub back in with reps will make a difference.

I don’t see too many changes, if at all, until the offseason.

Green needs to figure out the right line combinations for one and having two key pieces out doesn’t help him much.

Our goalies need to be better overall, same old story.

When we have everyone in the lineup I suspect will see more drastic lineup decisions, guys getting demoted for not doing their job. Norris being one of the obvious choices here since he’s not only been MIA but really playing bad hockey.

We wouldn't trade our captain warrior for any one of those guys in a straight up one for one trade other than possibly Fiala. Staios wants to build around Brady not trade him. Brady for any one of those guys would be a no go other than possibly Fiala.
I like your idea of trying to get Kempe maybe with us sending LA some kind of package deal.

We can’t expect to only win when we have a full healthy lineup though. Every team deals with injury and can still win with some of their regulars out. We need to find ways to win even with injuries. When Pinto and Perron are back, someone else on the team might get injured (knock on wood), then what? Will see how the next few games go I guess.

Alright. So. I can’t trade Brady. I can’t trade stu.

I would scour the nhl for a high octane center. Not a juggernaut. But a well priced guy maybe under appreciate on a team with a bit of a surplus. Doesn’t need to be a superstar. Just a high compete guy and I would tell Norris his days at center are done. Batherson is traded for said center.

Again that’s just a bandaid thing.

Or find some offense d man and trade batherson straight for for him. Move him with Sanderson.

Norris goes win pinto moves up

We need offensive talent on the back end

Other than hamonic I think they’ve mostly performed fine defensively.

They just have zero juice going forward

And which team do you think will trade for a 8m C with multiple shoulder surgeries and still have five years left on his contract?

Edit - Reading this again I assume you just want to move him to wing instead of trading him.

I would like to add an offensively skilled D too (Yak might become that next season). That would immensely help the offensive game of this team at ES and on the PP.

Who would that be? And who are you giving up that will improve the Preds right now?

His acquisitions so far have not moved the needle much. The only one who has added value so far is Jensen.

Lose a few more games and we could be out of the playoff race in December.

The Senators have been bad for many seasons now, due to the poor Ownership, GM and coaching staff we had. This season the injuries have had a negative effect on the team (Norris recovering, Pinto, Zub and also Perron out for personal reasons). Hopefully having all 4 back and fully healthy will make a positive difference and get some wins to get back into the playoff contention.

HOWEVER, what Staios did with the roster changes and what Green is doing as the HC, have not worked out so far. I am most disappointed with the way the team has played in the 3 games with Montreal, Buffalo and the Islanders. We should have won those games. It seems that the coaching staff has not been able to "motivate" the players to get the job done! The coddling approach of DJ Smith did not work. Some tough measures are needed to smarten players up and motivate them.

Get lucky with an acquisition and then trade them away for nothing.
One of Dorion's "best days ever"!

I don't think we need help at forward so long as Norris can remain healthy. We have a deep and versatile forward group. Could we add a veteran 4th liner or something at the deadline? Sure. But we don't need anything substantial.

We need a legitimate #5D. The way Hamonic is used, he is in that role, but I think most people here agree we would benefit from Hamonic slotting back into a more conservative role. By legitimate #5D, I mean a veteran bottom pairing defender who can take minutes with our top 4D when needed. A right hand would be ideal because both Chabot and Sanderson are lefties.
Getting a #5 D would definitely help; however, I think we need to have the coaching staff take some actions to motivate the team and also to "coach" the Fs to cover their man better in our D zone as I still see too many passengers watching the puck and not paying attention to their coverage roles and responsibilities.
