Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals - 2025/26 Part II

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
How I feel:
Robertson, Knies and Marchenko would be amazing, but not going to happen.

Peterka would be pretty nice, but he’s soft.

Laf or McTavish are fine, depending on the price.

Debrusk or Boeser, underwhelming.

Travis Konecny is a name I’ve heard a few times, who I think would be great. Seems like Philly wouldn’t be a good trade partner though since they want a C (and I wouldn’t want to move Cozens or Pinto).
Omg keep your feels to yourself. This is a hockey forum!!!

Last week, your team put out a feeler on Nichushkin. That was like last Tuesday/Wednesday.

That interest has increased this week, the teams are talking.

Ottawa are in that middle level of interest for him alongside Chicago and Utah. Detroit the most interested. Toronto and NY Islanders the least.

Just FYI.

No, I don’t have links to share sources and won’t share them anyhow. You don’t need to believe what I say, but just sharing the info for you guys. Not looking for clout or anything like that.

with all due respect if we are to believe every report out there we’ve sent out feelers for half the players in the league

I wonder if the Staois is targeting Elias Pettersson at all.
I really hope not.

Pettersson has a massive contract and, from everything I've heard, there have been attitude and maturity concerns for years. Green coached him, so if Ottawa ever did pursue him I'd assume he'd have signed off on it, but that's a lot of money tied up in a player who hasn't come close to justifying that cap hit recently. There would have to be significant retention and the acquisition cost would need to be surprisingly low.

Personally, Lafrenière is still my number one target. I think he's the most realistic high-end piece that could actually fit what Ottawa needs. He can score, he's still young, and a change of scenery playing with Stützle could do wonders for him. I think he'd be a great fit here.

As for McTavish, would people do Yakemchuk for him? I don't think I would, but I suspect that's the type of ask Anaheim would make.

I'd be much more comfortable moving a package around Spence and one of the third-round picks, assuming Staios knows he can replace the defence depth elsewhere. Trouba, Gudas, Anderson, Burns, and Oleksiak are all guys I'd have interest in. Realistically, Gudas is probably the only one I could actually see choosing Ottawa, but I'd absolutely love that addition.

Nichushkin would be a solid addition but I'd prefer someone younger.

I mean Nichushkin was a beast of a player and adds alot of size to this teams forward group which is what they are lacking. But is he the same player anymore? I guess thats the question.

Interesting. Nichushkin would be a really nice addition to the roster and he's signed four more years at a very reasonable cap hit.

doesn't Nichushkin also have a lot of off ice issues? Has been in the program too

Ottawa doesn't need more headlines

Can forget Robertson he doesn't want Ottawa and 13-14.5 million to convince him no ty . Something needs to be done with the no tax states down south

He had problems before, yes. Cocaine.

He's been clean for about 2 years now. Is very present in his daughter Anna's life, by all accounts a great dad. Also, he's the first guy on the ice for every practice, doesn't miss a single optional skate/practice, and is a workout freak in the gym.

Nichushkin has really turned his life around in the past 2 years.

Regarding his 12 team NTC, apparently that wouldn't be an issue and he'd be open to almost any team. Both the player and organization want a fresh start. There's still bad blood with him among teammates who haven't forgiven him for getting nabbed and failing drug tests in 2 playoff runs(2023 + 2024).

Random proposal but what about Ridley Grieg for Danilla Yurov?

Minny needs centre depth and might see Grieg as providing that and some playoff grit/tenacity.

Yurov immediately adds talent to the lineup, has massive upside and is a 1 for 1 on the smart two way play that Grieg had and Green wants.

Admittedly, he is not a finisher and we lose some sandpaper without Grieg and I have no idea if Yurov is at all expendable in minny's eyes.

If Nichushkin is cheap to acquire compared to someone like DeBrusk, he could be a good pickup.

He's got 4 more years left on his deal at a 6.25M cap hit, but his actual average salary is only about 5M.

Still wouldn't expect him to waive his NTC for us unless the options available to him are extremely slim.
