Are you buying these conjectures we’ve been hearing lately about how they might be looking to groom Demidov as a center?

I think he could do it. As I understand he's played center before. He certainty plays like a center. If he can handle the added responsibility and faceoffs I don't see why he couldn't do it.

Could instead be a semi-washed center to mentor Demidov, if the more premium center can’t be had.. Would much prefer to see Demidov play with a vet.

He was talking about Demidov. It was always about Demidov. They see Demidov be the play driver. Like Kucherov is the play driver as a winger. Media didn’t catch that one.

As soon as Gorton said it, I knew he meant Demidov. And many others here too. But media is still asleep on this one.

They don’t need a star centre; sure, if they can grab one without a heavy cost. They need a CAPABLE one. And a capable and responsible winger on the other side. I think fans have yet to see our 93 blossom . He will become the best forward of this team in 2 seasons from now.

Kapanen ain’t it. What Demidov did with Kappy is a glimpse of what he could do with a capable centre and winger. Kapanen scored 20 goals just like Young scored 50 with Lemieux; 93 is that good.

In a very short time, players will ASK to play with this kid.

Get him some capable line mates and it’ll be fine.

It depends how good Demidov becomes which is impossible to know right now. If he becomes anywhere near Patrick Kane then the CH can just grab a Pavel Zacha and it's going to be more than good enough. Hawks won with an almost retired Handzus as their 2nd line center. This is why i keep saying waiting another year to see what we got would not be as terrible as most fans think it would be. I know it would be a tough sells to the players but just tell Suzuki to bring the team in playoffs and you will get better help than last year at the deadline.

Right now KH will make a trade without having all the data in his hands and it's always very dangerous. If Hage torch the big 10 next season he'll gain lot of value. If Zharovsky re-edit his last season in the KHL and slightly improves upon it he'll gain lot of value. You'll have a better idea of Demidov's potential next season. You'll know for sure if Kapanen is a fraud or not. You'll have a better idea about Reinbacher, Engstrom, Beck, Florian Xhekaj and cie. Waiting another year until the deadline is not as stupid as the panic button crowd think it is.

premium can also be a vet. Im really not thrilled no have another washed 33+ year olds on the decline to fix our second line. Kapanen and Newhook on the top 6 is just simply completely dogshit.

I don't think running it back with Kapanen is that big a deal. He scored 20 as a rookie. He wasn't good in the playoffs but many rookies aren't. The biggest need is upgrading the defense. I don't even think they need a huge name, just upgrades on the bottom 6 pairings. Move Dobdon up to play with Hutson and get better players than Xhekaj/Carrier/Struble.

Depends. He is not going to address the holes that were exposed in the playoffs. But he is like another Suzuki, on the wing. Already the Habs biggest strength is that other teams are constantly trying to adjust to them. You can maybe overcome those weaknesses if you really lean in to the puck possession high octane style of this team. I can't imagine it's easy to prepare for a team with 2 dominant lineups.

yes but that's one move, if he doesn't do 2-3 each year while magically procuring assets to pull them off he might as well be bergevin.

I think you are wrong about Kapanen , He really went down mid season and was completely invisible for 30+ games + the playoffs.

Kapanen should be on a third line with Bolduc and Newhook.

Hes not good enough to play with Demidov.

Watched a lot of highlight videos today on McTavish

He's not the fastest guy out there but excites me to see a guy going to the paint and scoring goals from the dirty area

We don't have that and I think he could do great with Demi so comes down to price and if Habs mgmt think he can do that consistently
