Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals - 2025/26 Part II

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
How many players suddenly get better at 30?

He hit his ceiling long ago. He'd have been a good addition before Tkachuk left, but I don't see how he scores more with this current roster.
It's not about getting better, it's about being in better circumstances.

He paced 35 goals and 64 points in 22-23 with Boston, he averaged 25+ goals a year on an anemic Vancouver team and hit 28 in his best year (at age 28).... so I definitely don't think it's beyond the realm that he hit 30 goals or clear 50, 55, maybe even 60 points in the right situation here.

Batherson is a poor man's first liner, and he disappears when it matters most.

I do consider all of Aho, Ehlers and Svechnikov first liners, but regardless, the Canes also have frikkin' Jarvis, Stankoven, Blake and Hall who all played elite hockey in the playoffs and I don't see that kind of depth here.

Ehlers scored 9 goals in 45 playoff games prior to Carolina. Stankoven's career high before last season was 38 points. Blake's was 34. Taylor Hall was considered cooked after Chicago.

Did you consider them elite heading into last season? I certainly doubt it. Lots of people thought Carolina didn't have it in them. They found the right players for the right roles and everything popped. Those guys were incredible this past playoffs. But don't act like anyone "saw that kind of depth" there before it actually happened.

Who knows what Eklund can actually be. Why can't he become Ehlers?

If Ottawa had traded Tkachuk for Stankoven and two 1sts last year, you would have been pissed, I'm sure.

I thought both Hutson and Carrier had a lot of trouble dealing with Car's forcheck, more so than other teams top 4.

There's value in having the size to deal with guys crashing into you, but frankly Spence handled himself fine, so I see no rush to move on from him. If we do add a D with size, that's fine, but we should be keeping Spence.
That’s fair. 5’11 Sean Walker was very good in the playoffs though.

We're sitting here right now and there are no real scoring wingers available.

Also a team that only needs 2 pieces to win a cup doesn't get obliterated in Rd 1 despite having historically good goaltending.
We really could have used a few more healthy Dmen in that series. I think it's pretty misleading to suggest that series was representative of where this team is. Was the VGK/Col series representative of where Colorado is, or does an injury to Makar maybe impact the way things played out?

We can’t give a first for Risto who is one year away from UFA.

Definitely interested in the player though

Everyone got obliterated by the Canes, even Vegas looked like shit the last two games against them.

Anyway, in my scenario, with Tkachuk playing to his potential, we wouldn't have needed the same level of a "scoring winger" we do now that Brady's gone. Even Debrusk might have sufficed.

Absolutely, though he plays bigger than most guys his size. Ghost was great too. I'm not saying small D can't be good, or handle the post season. I just think you have to look at it on a case by case basis.

Surely the plan all along was to instill fear in Carolina with the likes of Cam Crotty, Lassi Thomson and Dennis Gilbert

Sure. But fundamentally we could not generate offense against a tight forechecking team in the playoffs.

Maybe with a healthy D corps we steal a game or two sure. But like we don't have the weapons.

Colorado has proven it already. We've seen what they can do when fully healthy.

Everyone knew Carolina had the depth bro. They are by far the deepest team in the league.

We didn't know just how good they were, and we underestimated their incredibly tight and effective system, but the depth was never in question.

And honestly, I would have been happier with Stankoven and two firsts. Absolutely without a doubt.

Batherson had a great playoffs, the f*** are you on about?

Stankoven, Blake and Hall were all 40-50 point players that had an amazing playoffs. Let’s not pretend now that they are these PPG players and always will be.

Ottawa has great depth, don’t know how that’s suddenly an issue, if anything it’s the high end talent that’s lacking in the forward group. Carolina had 12 players with 30points and more, Ottawa had 13 players and that doesn’t even include Foegele who can easily reach that.

Don’t get the whole negativity here that suddenly we’re a team full of scrubs.

A Spence for Risto makes sense as a basis for Ottawa. Unsure how that works for the Flyers however other than acquiring the younger player with upside and fits their build more

Batherson showed up these playoffs, but let's not pretend like this wasn't the exception lol.

We have decent depth, but with Tkachuk gone, as it stands I don't know that it's nearly enough to get us far.

Stankoven just turned 23, he's about to explode offensively imo. Same with Blake. We don't have those kinds of young players in the org.
