Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals - 2025/26 Part II

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
If we move Spence for Karlsson and he slides into our bottom pair I’m good with that.

But if that’s the answer for our top 4 problem then heck no he’s the opposite of what we need

Then it's bust, and you'll complain about not getting anybody.

You have to understand that the vast majority of players with any kind of say in where they go or where they sign do not want to come to Ottawa.

Low knowledge fans will go on and on about Robertson, Forsberg, Dorofyev, Nylander, etc... but it won't happen. This isn't EA NHL.

Players already with contracts that don't have trade protection? That's a different story.

McTavish, Lafreniere, Knies, Rust, Voronkov, Tippett, Peterka - those are examples of potential targets.
if the best we can do is McTavish keep the picks paying a premium on a 40 point player who hasn’t improved much if at all isn’t the answer.

Knies is perfect he’s acceptable for sure
I’d pay a lot to get him as he’s a way better player
In fact most players on your list id take over him

Mctavish and Petreka would be nightmares for me by far my least favourites of the rumoured players to he available.

Sure, players have never lived up to their potential because of skating flaws. Never happens in this league!
There's nothing to indicate that will happen with Yak, that's the thing. He's been an effective player at every level of his career, including in the small amount of NHL games he's played. Again, you just love being miserable and you are rooting for him to bust.

The NHL is where the lack of skating ability actually hurts you, not junior hockey. From all accounts he wasn’t very good defensively in Belleville at all.

But yes I want him to fail because for some reason I don’t like him…?

If we use the 9th overall pick on McTavish, it’s going to be a brutal reach on multiple fronts. He’s a very limited player with a low ceiling. I wouldn’t mind him as a depth piece—ideally acquired in exchange for a late first-round pick+++ —but even then, I’m very lukewarm on him and the Ducks will be wanting more. You're paying for pedigree with him and not just the player.

Lol of course he wasn't good, it was his first season. He's not Jake Sanderson man, he's a raw offensive defenseman who relies on his frame. He's going to get better defensively as he gets more comfortable reading plays at the highest level and putting on strength as he matures. Absolutely insane to think he's not going to get any better

Take everything that Bruce says with a grain of salt.

I know for a fact, the team doesn’t trust him with anything of consequence.

Him breaking the Zetterlund trade, was the office throwing him a bone.

He could be getting info from outside the team, but he is barely tolerated since Eugene died.
Good to know, thanks for clarifying!

Are you getting any info?

I am curious to know if the plan is to flip the assets for a star player or if the plan would be to bring in a few solid players

It is a major difference to target a guy like Robertson vs McTavish

If you are serious about getting Robertson you need to offer $14mm at a minimum. Will take more from Ottawa. $16mm maybe?

Depends, who has that cap space and is also trying to trade for him?

For the record, I’d be extremely shocked if he signs here.

Teams will clear cap I'm sure.

But if we are offering $14mm then he might as well just sign with Dallas for $12mm. Better team in an American market with drastically lower taxes.

My best guess is that it’ll involve something along the lines of Tippett and Risto for the 9th overall. I’m not saying I like it — it’s just a hunch. We could then use the 25th and/or Spence to go after another forward. Tippett is from the area, so the Sens may not be included on his No Trade List.

My preference would be to target a player like Laff (though I doubt it happens) or simply keep the picks and do a mini-rebuild.

I don't think Tippett's NTC kicks in until the summer, so we might be safe there.

I could see Spence going back to Philly in that deal as well as a replacement RD.

Tippett is probably worth a mid-1st on his own as a PWF with 27/28/20/28 goals over his last 4 seasons, and they'll probably want a 1st for Ristolainen too, so I wouldn't be surprised if we added to get those two, even if I'd absolutely hate it.
