The logic would be that Schneider could be turned around being coached by Green and playing in this system (just like Spence was), and if you want a good forward like Eklund, you're going to have to give something good up.
It's probably something I would do.
Even if Schneider proves to be a downgrade on Spence, adding a creative offensive forward is worth that downgrade.
Spence already had really good numbers in LA. He wasn't some bum, they just didn't like him because he's smaller. His skillset was perfect for the system we have, and he thrived.
Maybe it comes down to how we view how the team fits together. I look at it as finding players whose skillset fits our system and seeing what they can do. You seem to be looking at it as if our system can turn players into someone who has the skillset. I'm not sure it works that way. The player has to have the skillset to be able to execute the system.
Hamonic can't play this system. It wouldn't matter if he and Green lived in bunk beds for 2 years and all they did was study hockey.
Maybe Schneider has the skillset to play the system. I'm just not seeing it anywhere.
