ROR had 1 more point than Jeff Carter last season on a MUCH more high octane team.

I would have vomited at that deal if he came here. Dude skates in concrete too. 4 years by 4.5? Must really be banking on a cap increase.
In like 20 less games. The ROR deal is bad but don't compare him to Carter.

I posted Petry + Granlund for Karlsson straight up months ago.... zero retention.

No way the other clubs can handle him at no retention. But maybe the returns seem more interesting even with 4 years of retention idk.

Rossi just posted this on The Athletic live blog:

The latest with the Penguins, Erik Karlsson and Noah Hanifin

While Kyle Dubas has inquired with the Sharks about defenseman Erik Karlsson, the belief in Pittsburgh is that Hurricanes and Kraken are far more likely to land him via a trade. Dubas was doing due diligence, but the deal would be very complicated to do on the Penguins' terms.
Penguins are monitoring, though.
They also remain interested in Noah Hanifin, whom they targeted as a potential top-four addition on defense. The Penguins are one of many clubs that have checked in with the Flames about Hanifin, and the feeling in Pittsburgh is there are not enough assets to make a deal work — even if Hanifin would be interested in signing an extension in Pittsburgh, as he is.
So, to summarize, Dubas is thinking big with regard to potentially changing up the Penguins' defense corps. But with limited assets other than cap space, deals are viewed within the organization as unlikely unless something breaks in the Penguins' favor.
Dubas encouraged his scouts to take big swings at NHL Draft. He appears to have taken some with personnel moves. But it's contact, not swings, that make for hits
I will be extremely pissed if we missed out on a lot of these good bottom 6 signings because he was too wrapped up in trying to grab EK65 and still losing out on him

Right now you do not have a complete lineup with legit NHL players and THAT is a BIG PROBLEM!

3rd round pick for Kulikov to play 6 games. I guess you could say it was also to get rid of McGinn contract.

Why not? The Blues and Penguins were in a quite similar spot last year (16th and 17th in goals for in the league), then he went to a much better team in Toronto. He literally skates like shit - as seen with a set of eyes and stated by homer fans in Toronto including the TSN crew.... nobody thought he was worth anything more than a 2 year deal.

29 points for Carter and 30 for ROR is quite similar. You're saying because he paced for 12 more points that they're incomparable when they play the same position except ROR was making 7.7M last season and Carter 3M. Going forward the deal isn't as bad but it's not great either. Terrible signing. ROR is nothing but name recognition at this point from his efforts with the Blues. Shell of what he was.
