Surprised Motte hasn’t signed somewhere yet. Wonder what his offers look like.
The reason why he was traded was because Vancouver didn't have the cap space for another B6 guy to sign him to what he was said to have wanted, $2M range 3-4 years.

There will be no shortage of teams willing to give him 3 years $1.5M. his camp is waiting to see if a team steps up with something closer to 4 years $2M. Safe game for an unique B6 guy to play.

So let me get this straight. Strome and Copp sign 5m x 5y deals, but we were told the Rangers didn't want to give then term. Rangers then sign Trochek for 5m x 7y.

So behind all the talk and heavy smokescreens, Gallant basically told Drury to go out and get him his guy. I'm half joking at the absurdity of it all, but I do wonder how Panarin sees this deal. No more pandering? Is this a shot across the bow?
If Panarin is smart he'll realize Drury got him a much better linemate for basically the same price.

This guy gets it!
Have to stop blocking pathways for our own players to come up.
I mean, this time last season we traded Buchnevich so our young wingers could have more of an opportunity. We didn't add veteran depth until they floundered. We also started the year with Miller on the top pair, Lundkvist kind of jammed in, and then gave Schneider a real role halfway through the year.

Outside of the PP, which also happened to be the one thing we're best at, our kids weren't really blocked from anything. The only one in Hartford where you would say "that guy should be in the NHL" was Jones, IMO, and he was blocked by other young players more than anything.

In any event, Motte is a fourth line PK player. That might affect Cuylle's chances, but it wouldn't really have an impact on Othmann. And we have no idea if Cuylle is even close to being ready for a regular role.

Panarin to the Ducks for Jakob Silfverberg and Maxime Ccomtois

Let me get this straight. Johnny Hockey is from NJ and wants to play near his family and the Devils offer is 10 million dollars. And instead of taking that he signs with another team. away from his home state and family. and takes 9.75 million dollars.
Now in my book. the player is nuts or somebody is doing something shady when it comes to the money. Now we all heard the offer was 12 million, but they have to sign another player. So, what I want is for Fits to state if ten million was the amount, then something is fishy. The envelope of money will be delivered every week. One way to get around the Cap.

Motte didn't actually do a whole lot for us. I don't get why that's enough to sign him for a half-decade, especially when we have the makings of a decent fourth line under contract already.
Fair enough if you feel Motte wasn't productive but not sure if we currently have the makings for a decent 4th line. Goodrow is really the only decent one as of now. Hunt and Reaves maybe will combine for 8 goals. Unless we are confident one of the young kids is gonna force his way on?

Motte was fine. I just don't think he showed us enough to justify taking the risk on a multiyear deal like some of the proposals flying around. He certainly didn't show that he'd generate scoring, but that's ok.

I think Hunt is fine, and I like Reaves. Maybe Reaves shouldn't play every game. Plus we paid so much for Goodrow, and Blais very well may spend some time on the 4th line next season. We also have Rydahl. Let's not wreck our very small cap cushion by adding Motte.

Blais is gonna be on that line. No room for him on the other 3 lines.

Strome was a solid dude and helped create a solid room here. Said all the right things. Worked hard. Many dislike his game and that’s fine, but the guy was seriously a good dude. Enjoy the $25M.
Agreed. Anaheim is a nice place to be and that team will be fun. Good for him

I’m not one to lurk on other boards but I had a couple drinks tonight and am on a long commute home. The top two threads on the Devils board are Andrew Brunette being hired as assistant coach and NJ native Johnny Gaudreau taking a discount to play in Ohio.

Cuylle and Othmann should have some sustained time and success in Hartford before we start pencilling them in. Malhotra anyone?
