Jackets: Zack Werenski, Josh Anderson

Moore - Matthews - Anderson
Hyman - - Tavares - - Marner
Johnsson - - Kadri - Kapanen

Rielly - - Werenski
Muzzin - - - Zaitsev

Hainsey re-signed 1.5 x 1 year

Rathter deal brown for picks

Please no. I can't handle Hainsey for another full season with Rielly 5 on 5 and Hainsey playing very late in the third when we need a goal.

I appreciated his contributions but he's 38 years old. It's time to move on.

I sure hope Dubas and the Leafs are being a lot more pro-active and smart about adding to their defense. Re-signing Hainsey should be far down the list of things to do.

I think your going to be surprised at how good a deal he'll get. If used properly, he might have 2 or 3 years of serviceable use left in the tank.

I'd be surprised if Hainsey isn't back.

I wouldn't mind if Hainsey was not resigned, but finding a decent RD to play in the top 4 and log a lot of minutes has proven (by history) to be difficult and elusive. It's not impossible, but it is easier said than done.

A potentially good cheap pick up as a RHD in free agency will be Tim Heed. Very offensive RHD, who is buried behind Karlsson-Burns-Braun and could be better given a greater opportunity.

Gives up the blue line pretty good.

If you can get him on a cheap one year deal you could try to sort that out

I don't think his skating is so bad he couldn't do it with some work

He'd need to be on a cheap one year deal though

Eh, already have Rielly who gives it up pretty easy. probably my biggest gripe with him.

I think that Travis Dermott could turn into that player. He's pretty aggressive as it is & he has very good gap control.

I think we need to breed that attacking defensive mindset into the guys coming through our system

If you can skate and aren't a complete moron I don't understand why you can't control your own blueline and keep a tightish gap

Five locked threads on the Leaf board?

Is that some kind of record?

What's going on?

5v5 xGF% REL ranking among forwards currently with the team in the 2018 + 2019 playoffs:

Positive xGF%:

1. Ennis
2. Brown
3. Nylander
4. Kadri
5. Matthews
6. Marner
7. Goat
8. Tavares
9. Hyman
10. Marleau

Into the negative:

11. Moore
12: Kapanen
13: Johnsson

(Last year: Bozak, Komorov and JVR were all negatives and Plekanec was maybe the worst number in the playoffs.)

Have a feeling that Johnsons comments about acquiring a name D before the deadline was Subban. The thought of the 24/7 Subban drama in toronto sickens me to no end.

What would a Kadri trade comparable to the Lucic trade from Boston to LA look like and who would want to / be afford to do it?

LA traded:

2015 1st (Zboril) Barzal available
Colin Miller (22 year old RD 52 points in the A)
Martin Jones (25 year old backup ready for a shot at #1)

Boston then flipped Jones for Kuraly and a 2016 1st (Frederic)

I think if we could pull something like this off then sign a stopgap 3C we could really set ourselves up well going forward.

I'm not saying that I want to trade Kadri but if we can in theory replace him with a capable 3C, the assets gained would have more value than his worth to us.

Maybe Jost + Colorado's first (provided they don't win tonight) and another good prospect?

I doubt Kadri nets us that high of a return.

Lucic at the time was very highly coveted for what he brought to the game and was thought of as a 1st line winger who was going to dominate phyiscally and intimidate the hell out of the other team.

At the time he was a very dominant player and much more of a difference maker than Naz is now.

Not really. His 3 years prior to being traded He had a 50 point pace season riddled with injuries (7 goals 27 points in 46 games), a 24 goal, 59 point season, and an 18 goal, 44 point season in which Boston fans were all over him for getting soft (His penatly minute rate declined ever year as well).

He was a shell of his former Boston self at that point and he still got that kind of return.

Kadri has more term and a decent cap hit and is coming off 32 goals 61 points, 32 goals 55 points, and a down year of 16 goals and 44 points, similar to Lucic's last year in Boston and plays a more valuable position at Center.

Honestly if we don't get at least this in a trade I don't even look at moving him.

I get that Subban has a different personality but I wouldn't really call it drama. The guy would embrace being a Leaf and would be great for this team.

I have been a fan of what Kadri does for this team, but you've over valued him by quite a bit.

In this case its not all about production. Lucic was dominant in different ways, he was able to complete bully the other team to help his team control the play.

I wouldnt move Kadri either FYI. Hard to find a C that good on that type of contract and the 3rd line is very important in todays NHL.

The question comes down to;

Do you move a soon to be 29 year old, who's numbers appear to be declining, or the 23 year old (Nylander) to get the RHD, if such a trade is even available? It's a tough call, and you could make arguments either way.

both players have value, both should be traded for help on the D if good deals are out there. Let Marleau center the 3rd line for a year and run 2 offensive line, 2 defensive lines. Tighten up defensively and try not to make very game a shoot out at "OK Corral."

This may be the first time I've ever agreed with you.

If you trade Nylander now, you lose twice. Firstly by trading Nylander at his lowest value, and secondly by keeping the declining asset nearing 30 (Kadri) who you will soon have to look at replacing.
