Take a look around. All teams throw money at free agents. The Rangers were reportedly willing to do so with one player in this free agent class.

BTW, looking at CapFriendly, if the Rangers run with 12F and 6D, they actually have more like $11.6MM to spend on their RFAs:

$8.769MM current space
+1.075MM added upon burying Beleskey
+ .925MM added with Fox in the minors
+ .833MM added with Hajek in the minors

$11.602MM

EDIT: and that's obviously assuming all the albatrosses stay.

And tbh I’m not really trying to get on Montreal like that because I actually think they’re trending upwards big time (as much as I despise them). Impressed with what Bergevin has done over the past year os so. They just don’t have the top level talent we have.

Depends on how hard we are up for cap space, I would try to make it work with having him as 7D for the season. But you know DQ is going to play him in the top-4 every night he is on the roster so he has to go in some way - buyout may be the only option.

Last week Brooks wrote Kreider, Buchnevich, Vesey, Shattenkirk and Smith are on the endangered species list. Vesey is gone. Would it be a big surprise if more than just Kreider is moved this month? Second buyout window for one of the D.
