Cost controlled middle six player who was second in goals last season. Should have got a 2nd or at least a mid-level AHL prospect with the 3rd

Vesey has 1 year left until UFA and he already refused to sign with Buffalo once. There probably wasn't enough interest from other teams to drive the price up.

Maybe the Rangers are upping the ante on Panarin. I don't think the Rangers intend to be quiet today--even if they don't get Panarin.
I think they have more on the agenda than just targeting Panarin.

Albeit they are probably smaller moves such as a depth signing of Boyle, but still moves nonetheless

Can this be considered a successful offseason with the simple fact that we have Vesey/Pionk's roster spots occupied by promising young players and actually acquire assets for them?

It's a stretch to call him a middle 6 player.

On a good team, hes 4th liner at best and Buffalo is about to find that out

Mid-level AHL player? So we needed something with virtually zero value added to the trade for what reason? To take up a contract slot just because?

Vesey got a 3rd. We had a surplus of middle-bottom 6 wingers, we need to clear cap space - Buffalo knows this that impacts the price. I would've liked a 2nd but the actual value difference between a 2nd and 3rd is marginal. A 2nd would've been a home run, a 3rd is probably fair.

Thinking Gorton aimed for a 2nd but couldn't get any takers.

Wish #26 well in Buffalo. Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up playing with Eichel.

If Aho can be had and not kill us I'd rather put the money into him and Trouba.

We need cap space going forward. Kakko I heard is in the $3.5m range next 3 years of ELC with bonuses met. Kravtsov will garner a nice raise in 3 years when his ELC is up. I don't see how making a playmaking winger who puts in only 30 goals is worth $11-$13m a year and a large chunk of our cap. Especially when Ryan Strome is our #2 center...HELLO....BIG RED FLAG WAVING.

I get it, he's a bonified 80pt player. Still not the Alpha Shooter we need. And I just don't feel a playmaker should be getting that kind of money unless he can pot 35g minimum to go with the assists and be a 90pt+ player.

Winger should never be your "premier" player. It didn't work with Jagr, Gaborik, or Nash. Almost...still didn't.

2 strong centers, 2 strong D, and one strong goalie is my idea of a healthy core and where the bulk of cap should go.

Clear 10 mill in space and you can do both.

Brian Boyle would be a solid vet in the locker room. I wouldn't want to go more than a couple years though. There's a couple guys that I haven't heard too much about as far as destinations--Micheal Ferland (and he spells it Micheal not Michael--Haley is another one like that) and Ryan Dzingel. Acciari would be a good 4th line add and we've heard about Letestu as a possiblity for Hartford. After Panarin it's going to be more about bargain hunting but we can see even weaker teams have plans on adding.
