You have to remember that Frederik Andersen is basically a third year goalie who won the starting job from the previous starter Jonas Hiller and fended off goalie of the future John Gibson for a couple of years too...

This so much. And not to mention when Gibson wasn't pulling it off in the playoffs, they put in Andersen, and he basically stole two games for them.

Very happy about the cap hit and term with this trade/signing. Our D still needs work, but we've become better in net and on the wing, and getting a LOT better down the middle. Just need to be patient for the right defense pieces to come along.

Lundqvist hasn't played a minimum 60 games a year over the last three years. Only five goalies have. If you increase that to five years, there's not a single goaltender in the league that lives up to your work load standards.

As a career number, very very few goaltenders have anything more than the 50-55 starts per season on average.

This is the kind of stuff these two have been trolling about. Blatant antagonizers, we have 4-5 of them.

Just 4 or 5? Is it beyond the realm of possibility that we have trolls masquerading as Leaf fans? I've thought this for a long time. Not to suggest any particular poster, just sayin

Which pick did we give Anaheim?

They get the middle pick of our three.

so next year we have Our Own, SJ, and Ottawa's.

The highest 2nd is ours.
the lowest 2nd is ours

the middle pick belongs to Anaheim.

so if SJ drafts first overall - that 2nd is ours.

if we finish 5th and Ottawa finishes 6th. Anaheim gets our pick. And we keep Ottawa's

You're hilarious.
I disagreed with the trade. I presented my reasons. You call it "trolling"? So, anyone who doesn't agree with the masses is an antagonist? What is this, a Trump rally?

I think that notion may be something akin to paranoia. Differences of opinion should be grounds for quality discussion. I can say that despite mine, I have had my perceptions challenged and I think it's healthy.

He played 64 last season.
The season before, he played 46 (A puck to the throat can have that effect on your season)
the year before, he played 62
The year before that was the lockout.
The year before the lockout he played 62.
before that, in reverse order, he played 67,72,70 and 72 games.

While there has been a trend towards platooning (not a Lamoniello hallmark) it is evident that, injuries notwithstanding, top teams generally rely on their starters to play approx. 60-64 games. If you're averaging five years of results together, you're skewing the numbers, intentionally or otherwise.

There was a lockout in 2012. Nobody played 44 games. Guys get injured as was the case with Price, Crawford, Lundqvist and others. That said, the benchmark for a starter is not 50-55 games.

Some contract housekeeping: Frederik Andersen's recent #leafs deal includes a 10-team no-trade list.

Good point about the lockout.

Nevertheless, the three year sample still stands. Add Lundqvist and you still have 6 goaltenders in the league that lives up to your standard, including Rinne who did it while not performing adequately.

Nobody can tell you that you are wrong in your definition. There's no set definitions for these things, after all. But the one you use doesn't include a whole group of goaltenders proclaimed #1 by their teams, and it also excludes any goaltender on a team with a relied-upon backup or a coach who prefer to not ride his starter so hard. As such, it's not a very effective definition.

Anybody have a link to confirm this? I've been looking and haven't been able to find anything. Generalfanager normally has this stuff updated 5 minutes after a trade and it still says unconfirmed today.

So does that restrict us from dealing the other 2nd?

Technically, no. If we trade all, but one 2nd round pick that one will be our 'middle' one. Better question is what if we have 4 picks or two picks. lol

For two picks it would probably be the highest pick.

I am sure the Leafs scouted a few goalies all season long, knowing that they would be available via trade because of expansion. Lou did his homework

Question is, can he handle 60+ games is all.

That should not be a question since only very few can really do it. The regular season is so long and means not much. It's all about the playoffs and you should keep your goalie fresh for the playoffs. So why exhausting your goalie you pay much money for in the regular season.
There are goalies who played less games but better than Andersen and for less money. A look at last season:

nhl.com EVsave% with more than 30 games played
#1 .938 Reimer played 40 games
#4 .934 Elliott 42 games
#6 .933 Greiss 41 games
#12 .930 Neuvirth 32 games
#15 .928 Andersen 43 games

Any combination of Reimer, Elliott, Greiss and Neuvirth is cheaper than Andersen and his backup. Reimer was a UFA this year, the other 3 will be next year and also Greiss and Neuvirth were UFA last year.
I'm excited for the comparables, Andersen and his backup against any combination of those 4.
