Yes, you usually get 2-3 very good players , and a few other playable players out of the 30 second round picks.

I have no problem with the trade, they had clearly made the decision that they were not wiling to go long term with Frederic.

All draft picks are lottery tickets. The first rounders are those crazy expensive 20 dollar scratchers. The socond rounder is more you 5 dollar scratcher, and the later round guys are the dollar scratchers.
Good way to look at it. A

I think most years there is not a meaningful difference between late firsts and 2nd rounders

Bye Fred. Had his moments, always seemed like a nice kid, but could just never really get behind him as a player. No faulting his production in the previous two seasons, perfectly acceptable, but he struggled for impact in the big games, didn't feel like he ever quite worked out what his role on the team was. Then this season his form has dipped badly. Can say the same for a lot of our players, but still, in that position, and being unsigned with no new deal in sight, he had to go.

Good return given where things are at currently. But if you look over the longer term, the guy was pick 29, played two decent seasons as a bottom 6 forward, and has then returned a 42 or so, plus a 4th and a vaguely middling prospect. Call it even I suppose.

We'll see if Wanner becomes anything. Seems like there is a little hope and something to work with there. It is easy enough to dig a little into his 2023 suspension and find some speculation, also not hard to work out which of it is more likely to be accurate. But it's the past, he was young and the matter is closed, so I think it's fair to leave it at that and simply see how he goes in Boston.

Solid move. Hopefully Sweeney is not done yet.

Agreed. I'm okay with Carlo going but I have Coyle at the top of my trade list.

But honestly I don't think anyone is untouchable but some would require huge returns and overpayment that simply won't happen.

Get some picks Donny, free some cap, this season ain't ending in a cup
Yeah it would be nice to unload $5.25 mil for some more picks

I have nothing personal against Coyle except for the fact that he hasn't come close to earning his money this season ..and at 33, he's no spring chicken

We got a 2nd for Trent "The Passenger" Frederic? I'll take it.

He was done here when Zadorov had to wake him up on the bench a couple months ago.

Hopefully this is the beginning of a huge sale.
Iggy Pop gives you a thumb up

Don’t be surprised if this is the only trade. They now have a full draft card (though maybe missing a fourth this year? Since this one is 2026) and it’s not like it tips the scales on their chances at making the playoffs this year. I can see maybe Brazeau, but other than that I am betting they don’t do much else.

This is what I'm thinking as well.
