Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

I don't want Drury to make a move just to make one, but he's been wheeling and dealing all year my gut feels like he shouldn't stop now. There's no reason why the Rangers cannot make a run. If the Panarin-Trocheck-Lafreniere line can return to form, we have as good a shot as any team.
I always say why not us but the 4 nations tournament made me realize our top talents are lacking. Our best forward JT was basically a checker. Fox barely played at times as well. Not saying we cant have a chance but it would take a huge effort and some luck to compete with the Avs or Oilers top talent guys.

Not saying that it is happening, but what would a kane Panarin reunion 2.0 look like? Guy may need a carrot to consider a move like that but his contract is short at this point...

Outside of moving Smith, I don't think you do anything else that isn't an opportunity to make a hockey trade.

We have enough futures after the Smith deal and I don't see anyone else that gets moved for futures. Sometimes you don't get to revisit a deal in the summer.

Don't buy into the Kreider stuff. I think they'll wait it out and that's the summer deal. Panarin is the TDL next season, or not at all unfortunately.

Still think Drury is going to try to pull off a bigger deal than people expect other than smith. Too much time on his hands until the trade deadline to do nothing.

I think Drury is open to any good deal but I don't think he will force one if it isn't a fair to good offer.

How a team plays together can make a difference. The 2011 Bruins best player was arguably Patrice Bergeron---it was a team that was solid up and down the lineup but no really elite players. When the Blues won their Cup pretty much the same. You can win a Cup without elite players but you have to have a solid lineup from top to bottom with good depth players. Also our two Russians Igor and Artemi if they play to their abilities are elite. They weren't in that tournament.

I really like how JT has played for us since we got him. It's no bs north south--go to the net physical style of hockey. I probably wouldn't have put him with Mika but he's seemed to revive Mika since he's gotten here. Zibanejad use to be a hell of a player. HIs game kind of flagged last year and went missing for half a season this year and now he's looking kind of like the player he was 3/4 years ago. Will it last? Hopefully. But JT looks like a guy who could be our captain next year....a guy who will lead on the ice anyway. The Rangers badly needed an Alpha personality who could still bring a top line game.

You are right. How a team plays together is very important so its not impossible. I just think almost everything would have to go right.

Why does Kreider have to be a summer deal

Frederic is week to week and was dealt

Why would a team that wants Kreider for 2 more yrs not want him for this yrs run ?

Look, I’m not going to kick a gift horse in the mouth, but we got a full season from Smith for 2027 2nd. Can’t see anyone giving us a 2025 2nd for 6 weeks.
People overpay at the deadline. It’s nuts (which is why renting is a losing proposition mostly).

4 nations wasn’t NHL hockey

It was a short tournament and even other top NHL stars didn’t necessarily do well every game

I would take absolutely nothing away from it when it comes to NHL play
