The guy just cannot stay healthy. He can be really good when he plays, but if he's constantly missing major significant time every year, you really have to question if its worth keeping him around anymore, especially once his contract expires this summer.
He does have a cheap contract, and between that and Kochetkov's ridiculously cheap contract I wouldn't find it crazy to just carry 3 goalies with Kochetkov as the starter, Andersen as the star reliever, and a ~1.5m Ned type as your more typical backup.

I’m pretty sure that question was already answered long ago… it’s just he was still under contract this year

Have they tested this guy for some kind of medical deficiency (other than the blood clotting?). He cannot get healthy once injured unlike any player I’ve ever seen.

I’m not concluding it’s a blood issue again; rather, something muscular.

If it was blood, then RBA would have have stated it was long term up front.

Hopefully, Freddie is back by 2025.

FWIW: event though Freddie is “cheap” at $3.5m the reality is if a player is not available then to me, the cost is infinite.

Canes have successfully money pucked this position for some time allowing the team to field 3 good D pairs and 4 competent lines.

But…..as we all know, F & D don’t matter if your goalie is trash. Interesting times 2 years in a row.

That’s really hard to get under the cap

I've had a suspicion that he might have some kind of mental disorder. Anxiety or OCD or depression or something.

I know for a fact that the 21-22 playoffs, where we were rolling with an injured Raanta and a green PK, Freddie was healthy enough to play. Physically, there wasn't anything wrong with him. Or, at least, he was cleared by the medical staff from injury. My source told me he had "The yips", which is why he wasn't playing.

It would explain why his recovery time tables are always very vague and tend to jump around (as it has in this case).

AYUP. I have questioned his "compete" with regards to this for years and have been chastized for it.

The blood thing sort of caused me to scale back on that, but here we are AGAIN. He's a f***ing headcase and its been f***ing us over for a while. You trust this dude with the playoffs? No way. I don't want to see him in a single playoff game.

I wanted his ass gone after the playoffs last year and I want his ass gone now. The likelyhood is he isn't tradeable unless someone is REALLY hurting.

Except if it is a mental issue, that isn't a question of "compete." That's a serious medical condition that he likely has little control over. So you constantly going after him for "the Freddie flu" is in poor taste, to say the least.

My question would be, if it is a mental problem, why has he not reached out to the NHLPA about it (that we're aware of)?

Looking at Freddie, it's hard to conclude that he has a "happy" visage.

If true, very sorry to hear....mental illness can be quite a challenge.

OK.

Dude makes 3.5m a year to stop pucks. He's a pro athlete. Its not like he had to see his buddies die, or has to worry about money, or, or or... Boo hoo. Cry me a river. This shit of depression and whaetver in people who make millions a year and wouldnt know survivor's guilt if it knocked on their door is lost on me.

You call it poor taste. I call it bullshit. If a dude lays out of work sick all the time and refuses to come in becuase he has a cold all the time you fire his ass.

Well, for one thing, he’s still a very effective goalie when he isn’t possibly dealing with demons, so “firing” him wouldn’t make a lot of sense.

And two, if you’re aware of survivor’s guilt, you’re aware that your brain doesn’t always cause you to act rationally. Dealing with bad anxiety or depression or whathaveyou is the same deal. Your brain is your own worst enemy, and it’s very difficult to handle without some kind of help.

But I understand you’ve got to maintain your tough guy persona, so this is probably lost on you.

Yall are funny. The dude BLEW it in the playofffs, takes forever to recover from mystery injures (sans the blood clot thing) and is predictibly injured all the time while really being not much better than any other starter we've had over the years who relies on our defense.

I mean, if he cant handle the stress of being a pro athlete, then move on.

And knowing precisely what survivor's guilt is isn't a "tough guy persona" Go f*** yourself, how about that for direct? There's maybe one person on this board who knows what my service record is. Sorry not sorry if I can't relate to a chronically injured goalie who takes half a season to come back from a hang nail because he's sad or doesn't feel sparkly. This is pro sports. Not the local amazon office.

Famously, money makes you happy.

Borsig, do you roll on Shabbos?
I haven't the slightest idea what this means, and I probably won't care if I find out.
