Dobes doesn't have Fowler's swagger. Dobes is almost 25 years old he reached his ceiling already. He's going to be a very good backup goalie.I have to think Dobes has the highest ceiling out of all of them just based on his combination of size and athleticism.
If he shores up some of the flaws in his game, there is legitimate dominant goalie potential with him.
Huh? Goalies with 20 nhl games don’t reach their ceiling at 23.Dobes doesn't have Fowler's swagger. Dobes is almost 25 years old he reached his ceiling already. He's going to be a very good backup goalie.
Montembault shouldn't be mentioned in the same conversation. What did you see in Montembault when he was 20 years old? That's right, a whole lot of nothing. What are you trying to do here?Huh? Goalies with 20 nhl games don’t reach their ceiling at 23.
Montembault was waived by a bad Florida team when he was 25
I think they might ride Montembault and one of the kids for one more season and reaccess the situation next year. I doubt the staff is confident going with a Dobes/Fowler tandem at this point in time. They’re both still very green.I’m scared they trade Dobes and keep Monty to make room for Fowler and Dobes becomes a legend. His size and those far-post glove and pad Carey Price-like saves have me convinced. Good poise, can play the puck… Weird having too many good goalies!
Monty is a decent starter today and was waived by a terrible florida team when he was a year older than dobes is now.Montembault shouldn't be mentioned in the same conversation. Are you trying to convince us that Monty is the goalie for the future? What's you plan?
We don't need a decent-at-best goalie, and shouldn't settle for such.Monty is a decent starter today and was waived by a terrible florida team when he was a year older than dobes is now.
You just finished saying that a 23 year old goalie who has played 20 nhl games in his career has reached his ceiling. Im just hoping to illustrate to you how absurd that is by using monty as an example.
How much can Dobes improve until Fowler arrive and take over?Monty is a decent starter today and was waived by a terrible florida team when he was a year older than dobes is now.

I dont know. I prefer monty for the next 3-5 years over him anyway. I just think it’s silly to say he’s reached his ceiling after this seasonHow much can Dobes improve until Fowler arrive and take over?
Properly constructed teams can easily win cups with montembault level goaltending. At least what he showed us in the first 3.5 games this yearWe don't need a decent-at-best goalie, and shouldn't settle for such.
Monty is not going anywhere yet, but not so sure he has another 3-5 years in him in Montreal.I dont know. I prefer monty for the next 3-5 years over him anyway. I just think it’s silly to say he’s reached his ceiling after this season
Ya, it’s tough to tell, love them both….then add Volokhin in the mix and a very likeable Monty and you got yourself Mexican standoff….Way too early to tell but the way Fowler has played since reporting to Laval is eye opening.
But I will stick with...too early to tell.
Not so fast….I’m thinking this picture comes into focus in 2-3yrs.Think this is pretty clearly Fowler right now
Yes, I think Dobes has a great future. Fowler, however, is the best goalie prospect in the world. Not so fast….I’m thinking this picture comes into focus in 2-3yrs.
With the proper coaching, DOBES can become technically sound and with that size and athleticism…a nightmare for opposing shooters.
Think we in good hands between the pipes for the next 15yrs
Volokhin is tough to gauge for me. Technically sound, but playing on an absolutely terrible Sochi team and getting lit up with no supporting cast.Fowler has the pedigree to be a very good NHL starter. He looks a bit on the smaller side even though he's listed at 6'2".
Dobes has a very rare mix of size and athleticism. His positioning and movement does get him into trouble so he'll need to work on that.
Volokhin should be included in this discussion as well. Just a solid goaltender in all areas. I personally believe he has the highest ceiling of the three.
It will come down to who develops better over the next 3 years and adapts their games and shortcomings better to the NHL game. There should be a relatively good tandem made of whichever two we decide to keep.
Dude, his point was that the Monty of today is greatly improved over the Monty of before, despite being waived at 25, so talking of ceiling at 23 for a goalie is ridiculous.Montembault shouldn't be mentioned in the same conversation. Montembault won the stupid 4 nation tourney, that's his greatest achievement so far.
