Regardless of your political opinion, this does add a storyline and some intrigue to the tournament IMO.

The Canada v. USA game is gonna be great.

Regulation wins being a tiebreaker already states the fact that they are worth more than an OT/SO win so just get on with it already.

Tiebreakers are a ridiculously negligible consideration (how likely are they ever to be taken into account!) compared to every single NHL game in the overlong season being 20 times more exciting because teams are forced to gun for the full 3 points in regulation.

But nope. The NHL is an anti-merit league. They strive to make bad teams appear stronger than they are. All because of $$$, naturally. To the detriment of viewers around the league, and the sport of hockey.

The good teams have nothing to worry about in the NHL point system. The bad teams are irrelevant. The average teams, if your season comes down to one extra OT appearance by you or some other team, you literally have nobody else to blame but yourself. If you win your games in regulation, with the current NHL point system, you are fine. It's better to win in regulation than not. As long as that's true, and it is, there's nothing to complain about.

I like the 3-2-1 point format. NHL should adopt. Also NBA are you watching? This is what the NBA All-Star format should have 4 nations. Say USA/CANADA/FRANCE/SERBIA - Who ever comes in 4th is relegated
No way. Beating a bottom feeder in regulation more valuable than beating a good team in OT? That's disgusting. W-L is the only rational direction for the NHL to go in. The point system shouldn't exist. It only makes sense for tourneys.

6 games left in the season 2 teams tied for a PO spot, one team goes 3-3-0 gets 6 points , another goes 1-0-5 for 7 points and gets in, but yea no complains there.

I say the players on the 4th place team become contestants on The Running Man.

They've already announced Theodore is done until the playoffs

You'd better believe Eichel and Stone are getting long term paper cuts so VGK can bring in an entire team
Vegas has a GM that knows the rules and how to assemble a team built for the playoffs.

Lmao Kempe with another OT fail that ended with a goal going the other way. Oooof.
That goal is on Forsberg. Kempe had a good rush chance. Forsberg has to commit himself one way or another. Either follow in directly behind Kempe, looking for a rebound or jam play, or hang back and play defense. He tried to do both. Hung back way too long, then charged in after they had already lost possession - leading directly to the 2 on 1 in the other direction.

White knighting for Doughty aside, I don't understand why Kings fans hate these guys. Two of the very few players in this league that can take you back to the days of power forwards. Brady has 21 goals, 101 PIMs and is 8th in the league in total hits. Total beauty. Either of these guys would be the most popular player on the Kings.

Nobody is safe when a Tkachuk puts on a U.S. jersey. Hotel furniture as well.
Idk I go back and forth defending and hating them. I know what they bring to their teams and admire it but the Tkachuks (pops included) just don't seem like my kind of people. Granted, I've never had a conversation with any of them so it's really meaningless.

As I said, average teams only have themselves to blame for anything that happens to them. 3-3 in regulation? You don't matter. The other team was more competitive in 2 additional games. Win one more game, go 4-2 in regulation, and you make the playoffs. That's your fault, not the point system.

Matthew's gotta beat the spot-picker allegations before I think of him as anything but a rat

Brady will at least drop them willingly and frequently. He's a giant f***ing baby but he'll back it up. Matthew still likes to create messes and hide behind refs too much for my liking.

Both high skill and high physicality, love that. I appreciate that the antics come with the family but if you're going to light fuses you've gotta stick around for the explosions.

And none of that has anything to do with Doughty, who is a giant primadonna bitch in his own right.

I’m in favor of the 3 point system, but there’s another reason for the current thing. It keeps teams in the race for longer which discourages (to some degree) tanking as well as fans just not showing up for 30+ games for half of the teams in the league. Not “money” per se, but definitely entertainment and legitimacy to the regular season.
