Starting to really like the idea of Hagel - Point - Konecny as a line.

You have the leagues #3 goal scorer centering Canada's #5 & #8 leading scorers.

All 3 play good both ways and can be an effective shut down line that can also provide offense. They are also all perfectly in their natural positons (LW-C-RW) which is very rare for Canada with a lot of C' converted to W typically.

Some built-in chemistry with Hagel & Point is the cherry on top of a line combo that makes a lot of sense IMO.
Hagel and Konecny kind of fill the same role. It’s a good line, but no one can drive play on that one:

Hagel-Point-Marner
Hagel-Point-Thomas
Hagel-Thomas-Point
Konecny-Point-Marner
Konecny-Point-Thomas

These combinations still maintain good 2-way play and are able to create offensively.

Even without Daccord, I don't see why the Canadian brass would select Cam Talbot... he's 37 and this team needs to look to 2026 and beyond.

Montembeault and Binnington have turned up for Canada internationally and that should count for something.

Between Hill and L Thompson after that.

Ryan O'Reilly is an absolute no for me. He's in the worst form of his life. No chance he's here.

He said that he can’t be on the initial roster, but if he gets a passport between now and then he could be an injury replacement.
I’m glad. It’s pathetic that Canada is relying on things like this just to have a competent goalie at the best-on-best stage. Learn your lesson, improve your development. You might lose to the States at the 4 Nations, you might not, but one thing is for sure, WE NEED GOALIES!

Here's my contribution. Probably missed someone. Feels wrong leaving Strome off but there is too much talent. Love the nasty 3rd line and the shutdown capabilities of line 4.

Reinhart———-McDavid———Marner
Point—————Crosby————Mackinnon
Marchand——-Bennett———-Wilson
Scheifele———Suzuki————Stone
Konecny

Toews—————Makar
Morrissey———Hamilton
Theodore———Pietrangelo

Any chance of Tanev getting selected for the team?

Since the start of the 2022-2023 seasons, 110 dmen have played 2500+ minutes. Of these Tanev ranks:

Ozone start%: 38.82%
Shots Against/60: 23.93 (2nd fewest out of 110)
High Danger Chances Allowed/60: 8.84 (Fewest out of 110)
Expected Goals Against/60: 2.05 (Fewest out of 110)
Blocked Shots/60: 6.06 (2nd most out of 110)

Certainly in the conversation as the best defensive dman in the league (and probably has been). Could maybe play the Vlasic a la 2014 role on the team?

I think that there is a decent chance. I'd also maybe put him on my own team. I had Parayko on as my token defensive/PK RHD but Tanev may be the better option at this point.

I'd have no issue with Tanev in a #6/7 d-man role, focusing on killing penalties and taking some d-zone starts. He's 35 with a lot of miles on his body, though. Vlasic, who you brought up as a comparison, was 26 when he was chosen for the 2014 OGs and probably at his peak level of play. I'd say Tanev is still very effective at what he does, but is (very) late prime at this point.

He's the kind of player I'd have no issue with Armstrong selecting as a sort of "lifetime achievement" reward. He's still good and wouldn't hurt the team if he's utilized properly.

Just focusing on this season as hes at an age where he might be falling off:

113 dmen have played 350+ 5v5 minutes. Of these Tanev ranks:

Ozone start%: 27.68% (3rd lowest out of 113)
Shots Against/60: 22.08 (3rd fewest out of 113)
High Danger Chances Allowed/60: 7.23 (4th fewest out of 113)
Expected Goals Against/60: 1.77 (6th fewest out of 113)
Blocked Shots/60: 7.87 (2nd most out of 113)

At 35, he's actually being buried in harder matchups/dzone starts than ever and still putting up sparkling d numbers. Worries about him wearing down can creep in I guess but the fact he's not played a huge amount of 5v5 TOI/GP except in the role you are suggesting means he could still be pretty fresh. So many options for Canada.

Sanheim has been tremendous for the Flyers this year. He's arguably the biggest reason they are currently in a playoff spot.
He’s a fine player, I just mean Canada used to have the likes of Niedermayer, Pronger and Keith at LD. It seems all of their talent is on RD right now. Not used to it.

I'm totally fine with the Travises being selected, particularly Konecny. He's long been a favourite of mine (and one of, if not my all-time favourite 67s player).

They need a nickname:

Travis-squared

If Sanheim was picked, is there a LHD we think was left out? Because unless he’s going to the 7th D one of toews, Theodore, or Morrisey likely made way
Could be seventh defenceman if he did make it. I wouldn't be shocked if it is Toews as Sanheim is a better player who just doesn't play with Makar, could be Theodore who probably is not a lock. Can't imagine they don't select Morrissey.

Konecny would be a good pick even with how strong Canada is at RW. If he played on a stronger power play the last few years he would have been on more radars heading into this season. He definitely deserves it. I also recall that two or three days ago TSN has a little story about Konecny and Sanheim talking about making this roster, so there were probably rumblings then.

Also now that I think back to the 2016 WJC, maybe Sanheim will be seventh defenceman while Canada overplays Joe Hicketts all the time.
