Starting to really like the idea of Hagel - Point - Konecny as a line.

You have the leagues #3 goal scorer centering Canada's #5 & #8 leading scorers.

All 3 play good both ways and can be an effective shut down line that can also provide offense. They are also all perfectly in their natural positons (LW-C-RW) which is very rare for Canada with a lot of C' converted to W typically.

Some built-in chemistry with Hagel & Point is the cherry on top of a line combo that makes a lot of sense IMO.

I'd take Marc-Andre Fluery over Binnington, I get the argument regarding his age and role right now, hey he's more rested lol. I just always remember that year 2017 Matt Murray got injured and Fluery had to step up and step up he did, if it wasn't for his play in that cup run in, the Pens wouldn't of won the cup. I always felt people undervalued him, he's good and I think he deserves it due to his career.

Points: 21
Currently injured but maybe the best two way winger in the league up until that point.

Brutal start for Stammer with his new club (including rocking a -14) but coming off a 40 goal 81 point season, do we put him on the team as a triggerman with its plethora of high end playmakers (of which is lacking in Nashville)?

Out for most of the year with the bad ankle, does he get named to provide leadership and experience on the backend?

Add O’Reilly and Duchene to the mix.

I’d definitely select Stone and, if healthy, Doughty. I don’t really think we need the others but I wouldn’t be too unhappy with Tavares or O’Reilly. The rest, I’d be disappointed with.

Tavares and O’Reilly, and likely Cirelli, are likely in contention for a similar role - LHS depth C/LW that is good on the faceoff dot, can potentially kill penalties and contribute at ES. I’d lean toward Cirelli…younger, faster, good on the PK, good pedigree, and adds a chipiness factor to the bottom-6. And he has familiarity with Point. Tavares has a solid possession game, chemistry with Marner, and is excellent on the faceoff dot but at some point we need to turn the page on these vets. I’d take Bennett over Tavares as well honestly, based on the style of game I’d like to see Canada play.

No reel need for Scheif imo - would lean towards Thomas or Suzuki as RHS centre options with much better 200 foot games. Any offensive upside isn’t really worth it with him.

Stammer is now a one-trick pony…a trick that is in short supply, but I’m bullish on Canada’s chances of having an effective PP without him. Reinhart and Point are much better overall players, can shoot and score goals, and their 200-foot capabilities more than offset any shortcomings relative to Stamkos on the faceoff dot.

How does he have the highest 5 on 5 goal differential?

Stamkos is a good example of why you select players and not statlines. Nashville Stamkos is more indicative of what he's been for a while now than Tampa Bay Stamkos looked. Canada could use a sniper but 2012 Stamkos isn't available, and the wing slots on the power play are going to be McDavid and MacKinnon regardless.

Also, LeBrun says that the team was set last night.

+/- is different from 5v5 play.

It encompasses all even-strength play including empty net situations, overtime, etc.. It's not as strong a stat as 5v5, especially when we are looking for depth players in this situation. It's an "OK" stat to use but can be deceiving when trying to judge a player individually.

Even better is to use 5v5 goal differential relative teammates (5v5 GF% REL) to take out the team aspect to go along with it.

How much better is your goal differential than the average on your team?

Tavares stands at +25.77% which is top 5 in the league for that stat too.
