Starting to really like the idea of Hagel - Point - Konecny as a line.

You have the leagues #3 goal scorer centering Canada's #5 & #8 leading scorers.

All 3 play good both ways and can be an effective shut down line that can also provide offense. They are also all perfectly in their natural positons (LW-C-RW) which is very rare for Canada with a lot of C' converted to W typically.

Some built-in chemistry with Hagel & Point is the cherry on top of a line combo that makes a lot of sense IMO.

Hagel and Konecny kind of fill the same role. It’s a good line, but no one can drive play on that one:

Konecny-Point-Marner
Konecny-Point-Thomas

These combinations still maintain good 2-way play and are able to create offensively.

Even without Daccord, I don't see why the Canadian brass would select Cam Talbot... he's 37 and this team needs to look to 2026 and beyond.

Montembeault and Binnington have turned up for Canada internationally and that should count for something.

Between Hill and L Thompson after that.

Ryan O'Reilly is an absolute no for me. He's in the worst form of his life. No chance he's here.

I’m glad. It’s pathetic that Canada is relying on things like this just to have a competent goalie at the best-on-best stage. Learn your lesson, improve your development. You might lose to the States at the 4 Nations, you might not, but one thing is for sure, WE NEED GOALIES!

Certainly in the conversation as the best defensive dman in the league (and probably has been). Could maybe play the Vlasic a la 2014 role on the team?

I think that there is a decent chance. I'd also maybe put him on my own team. I had Parayko on as my token defensive/PK RHD but Tanev may be the better option at this point.

Vlasic, who you brought up as a comparison, was 26 when he was chosen for the 2014 OGs and probably at his peak level of play. I'd say Tanev is still very effective at what he does, but is (very) late prime at this point.

He's the kind of player I'd have no issue with Armstrong selecting as a sort of "lifetime achievement" reward. He's still good and wouldn't hurt the team if he's utilized properly.

Blocked Shots/60: 7.87 (2nd most out of 113)

At 35, he's actually being buried in harder matchups/dzone starts than ever and still putting up sparkling d numbers. Worries about him wearing down can creep in I guess but the fact he's not played a huge amount of 5v5 TOI/GP except in the role you are suggesting means he could still be pretty fresh. So many options for Canada.

Sanheim has been tremendous for the Flyers this year. He's arguably the biggest reason they are currently in a playoff spot.

He’s a fine player, I just mean Canada used to have the likes of Niedermayer, Pronger and Keith at LD. It seems all of their talent is on RD right now. Not used to it.

Could be seventh defenceman if he did make it. I wouldn't be shocked if it is Toews as Sanheim is a better player who just doesn't play with Makar, could be Theodore who probably is not a lock. Can't imagine they don't select Morrissey.
