Matthew and Brady will be living rent free in Canada psyche for a long time. I am all for it.
Why though? Matt vs Hagel was a pretty close bout, Brady beat Bennett convincingly, and Parayko took it easy on emo boy Miller but still kicked his ass. Those fights and it had no bearing on the game anyways.

It was a fun game. I know this was before zoomers invented the "rent free" saying, but I believe we were accused of the Americans being in our heads after the Vancouver 2010 group stage game too. Enjoy it for now but there's still a long way to go ;)

I thought it was a tone setter to be honest. I also think the you sit for five minutes matters less when you look at the rosters than this typical argument of removing a star in game. While not totally ideal you could argue taking a Dman out for five minutes is more damaging in terms of Canada. The USA just rolled three lines for five minutes while everyone was fresh. They did lose the better players in the exchanges but again I think that actually speaks to the talent levels.

Only Trocheck and Nelson are really Hagel and Bennett exchanges. I think every dman the US iced last night is better than Parayko. So who do you exchange? Set the tone the building noise and moment is something we are embracing. Again this is what you heard from the US teammates postgame and in game, so I don’t really agree with people trying to make it a total non-factor. It seemed to mean something to the room.

Like I said I generally think staged fights are stupid. And it's not like they dominated those fights. It fired up the home crowd as much as anything. I saw a clip of it and they mentioned the Tkachuk bros and Miller all being on a text thread thinking it would be cool to drop the gloves to start the game. It just seemed like a selfish move.

I think the higlights of McAvoy repeatedly crushing McDavid were a tone setter more than anything. It sounds like Team USA brought physicality all night.

But this is all with the caveat I've only seen some clips of highlights and can't stand the Tkachuks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to watch those knuckleheads trolling some other team for a change. I just think it wasn't a very smart move to start the game taking themselves off the ice. And in full disclosure I generally think staged fights are stupid, unless they're about someone stepping up for a questionable play in a prior game.

And gee, whoever would've guessed Binnington would be Team Canada's achilles heel? lol

My only rooting interest was for whatever helmet they were hitting. If any of Miller or the Tkachuk's could have busted their hands/wrists it would benefit the Wings. I'll be that guy and just admit to still not caring about this tournament at all and I'm not making time to watch it. Just want our guys to come back healthy and everyone else to get beat all to hell.

Isn't sweden done no matter what?
Absolutely not, not sure why the broadcast said that yesterday and why their producer didn’t immediately correct them.

It’s a very straightforward path, if Canada/Finland goes to OT, regardless of who wins, Sweden just needs to beat a resting US team in regulation to make the championship.

As a Canadian Wings fan, I was happy for Larkin.

Also, as a Canadian Wings fan, hopefully see you boys in the final.

Also side not, I like how people on this board are being respectful about the win over Canada, unlike many people on other social media platforms. You guys are enjoying your win in a respectful way, which is nice to see.
I think we’re all hardcore enough here that we understand Canada could’ve just as easily won this game, especially if Binnington had one of his “on” games. It was very telling how deflating Guentzel’s first goal was when they panned to McDavid immediately after the goal and he had a look on his face like “really? This is the best goaltending we could come up with?”

Also, this tournament isn’t over. Canada likely demolishes Finland and we’re back to square one in a couple days.

They are both having good tourneys and being recognized for it. Good luck guys

I wonder how long it will be before BradyT wants out of Ottawa and Canada
Ballots are being counted as I type this with the intention of banning the Tkachuk bros from entering Canada…Initial results show 94% in favor.

Unless something miraculous/catastrophic happens, most people won't be referencing this event in 10 years, let alone 50. There will hopefully have been two best on best olympic tournaments in the next decade where players are truly playing for their country and a gold medal.
I'm not sure about that. I think the novelty of this format replacing the all star game cements it's place in history. Then the fights...in 40+ years of following international competitions, I've never seen anything like that. What other league has put out that intense of a competition for the all star break?

I like the point system. I hope we try it out someday in the nhl
Yeah. This whole notion of some games generating more points than others never sat right with me, and I wonder if they are floating a balloon out there to see how folks react to a three point format. I think it just makes sense that a team does not get the same mount of points if they can not outright win.
Then again, I am old and crusty, and was just fine with there being ties in the regular season 🤷‍♂️

Its nice seeing Larkin and Raymond get to play some really intense games and perform the way they are. A guy who has won a cup recently and is playing for Canada said these games are faster than NHL playoff games.

Lots of chest pounding going on on social media about the US beating Canada for a game that Canada carried the play for the most part, first goal was shit and Canada won 2/3 of the fights. Canada not bringing their best goalies due to drama in Vegas is a complete joke as well. They have 2 of the top 3 Vezina favourites sitting at home right now

That was almost like Yzerman Game7 OT winner at 1996. :)

Interesting day today. FIN-CAN could be anything, of course Canada is a big favourite, but it's also belief rising on Finnish team after a win and they are finding better line combinations game after game.

Now if they could put struggled Aho to lower lines with old dynamic duo Teräväinen, then everything would be perfect.

Canada has it's weakness in goal, and that's why they are scared like hell today. :naughty:

Man how much content are they going to milk from Larkin's goal? Haha. Although the Swedish broadcast naming Detroit Red Wings was pretty hard.
