Four Nations-cup

With Theodore out the bottom 4 defence is a concern. Doughty struggled at this level, and Parayko and Morrissey weren't much better if you could say they were better at all. After watching that game I don't know if it's out of left field to say that Nurse and Bouchard in for really any of those 3 would be an upgrade. Might need to think about splitting Toews and Makar to spread the wealth around.

The game on Saturday feels like it's going to be incredibly high paced, intense and emotional. I think Bennett needs to come in for one of Konecny or Hagel (probably Konecny IMO) to add the rat, dirty element to our side. Hill should start, but likely won't.

I think the Americans are likely to play a very Florida Panthers style of game. Heavy on the forecheck, physical, attempt to push you out of the game. We have the horses up front to counter it catching them too deep in the O zone chasing hits, only question is if the defence will be able to get the puck up quick enough on the bottom 2 pairs.

Yeah the criticism comes off as silly as we're all too used to our players passing off any given opportunity. I'd love if McDavid were more selfish.
Right. That’s the point. These are all world class players. It’s not 97 on the Oilers 15-16 club with Pakarinen, Korpikoski, Davidson, Lander, Hendricks and so on.

I'm not too worried, Doughty has barely played this year, so this is alot, but I thought he was ok. Parayko is the #2/3 on his non-playoff team and it shows, he just shouldn't be here.

Morrissey was decent, but shackled to Parayko isn't doing him favours, and Sanheim is a very good player and I expect him to play some solid minutes in the top-4.

Once they figure out who can play and who can't, the team will fine. That said, the USA will be a hell of test.

Big in a bad way is how I see it. Vegas will LTIR him until the playoffs, go big game hunting for another d. That creates two issues. It increases competition in the market for the same position as we’d be wanting to upgrade and they get him back for the playoffs along with their new toy.
What do they have for assets? That might be the only thing that holds them back…hopefully.

He seems like the type that if people were hyping him up to be "the best" , which some media are, that it would bother him if he actually wasn't.
He isn’t. Colorado fans would love him to be and the NHL would also in order to justify being so far up Colorado’s butt like a barium enema.

He’s a great player no doubt but there is a reason why Sid and Connor are the guys being talked about today.

Those two aren’t guys trying to play hero hockey, those are guys trying to do the things that lead to wins.

He did it 4 times. He literally looked like me using my created player in NHL 25--no one else is getting the puck no matter what. He looked like when an NBA player keeps trying to shoot the 3 despite having a single-digit shooting percentage. He looked like he was telling himself, "I'm A rEaL bUlL." It was embarrassing especially given that he had the best player in the world open in at least 2 of his 4 tries.
This convinces me he did the right thing. I mean, you wouldn’t build a substandard player as your created player, right.

Bouchard is way better than Parayko and the reanimated corpse of Doughty lol.

But he's just not the type of player Hockey Canada ever really considers.

Good point but it’s Vegas, they always find a way to load up.
NMCs and NTCs help with that but at some point you have to give up something worthwhile and most of what they have is already on the big club.

Binnington was brutal on the the first two goals, but he has some really good saves especially in overtime. Give him credit. He adjusted

Not many players can do that after a shaky start. I can, and a few others but that's about it.
Stu does it all the time, come on man. After he lets in 3 in the first 10 minutes mind you.....;)

Well, didn't have anything on the go, so I took in most of the game, and as expected, highly entertaining. The OT was great and I loved that it took them nearly 7 minutes to finally score, some great saves in there. I didn't mind the bottom 6 lines but the top 6 need some adjusting. I'd love to see McDavid with Crosby. And Parayko is a slug on our D, not sure how he ever got selected.

McDavid was okay. Had some flashes but lost the puck a few times too.

While I understand the "selfish" criticism of MacKinnon, I'd actually be more appreciative of McDavid and co if they were that selfish. Their problem is they're always looking for the pass and that makes them predictable.

Great shot by Marner in OT. That's the kind I want to see from the Oilers.
Agreed, but there's a happy medium between MacKinnon's OT puck-hogging and McDavid's pass-happiness. The ideal player knows when to shoot and when to pass.

I finally watched the Sportsnet highlights. It was night and day compared with TNT coverage. Now I understand why the articles speaking about the intensity of the game were written.

I'm contrast, the US broadcast team not surprisingly presented a very sterile version of the Canada-Sweden match-up. No emotion, turned down the volume on the Montreal crowd too much, Pang between the benches didn't provide much insight. They did have Gretzky and Carter in the studio conveying how much these games matter to Canadians, but that was about it.

Good thing such a player (Draisaitl) plays for the Oilers.

A top 5 forward in the world is a “puck hog” because he looked off another top 5 player in the world and took a shot? Lol.

Instead, maybe he saw an opening and felt he was in a good place to score. I mean, he’s f***ing good too, right. I don’t like MacKinnon, but I can’t be a hater because he didn’t pass to 97, Good grief. To satisfy puck hog accusations maybe the NHL should rate each player in a hierarchy and institute a rule that the lower rated person must pass to the higher rated person on every play. That would eliminate this situation (and probably a few good scoring opportunities too).

What a crock.
He went 1v3 like 5 times in OT. It wasn't looking off McDavid one time...
He buried into the goalie's chest 5 consecutive outside shots in a 3v3, where you should be looking for higher quality shots, especially if playing with other world-class players. Cmon. Just low IQ plays.

Going 1 on 3 to get a mid shot off and losing possession multiple times in OT was bush league by mackinnon. Possession is everything in 3 on 3. I expect him to settle down though and be a monster next game.

MacKinnon is purely a "skate fast and shoot" type player. There isn't a lot of complexity to his game.

It might sound like an insult, but "skate fast, shoot, don't ask questions" works well for him. He's just not going to pick teams apart or work off his teammates due to great vision. Relies purely on physical talent, which is obviously very high.
