News & Notes XLV: Simply Having A Wonderful Canesmastime

They were talking on Sirius this morning that Ovechkin's projected record breaking date, per one tracker, is April 10 at home vs the Canes.

The Canes also play them on April 2 in Raleigh.

Given his history vs the Canes not a bad guess, I suppose.
I'm not exactly in a position to go follow Ovi around like Gretzky and Betmman will lol but if he's within a goal for either of those games I may consider traveling to go to one of them. Would be so f***ing cool to be there in person for a Gretzky record being broken and to see the Canes win as a cherry on top of the history.

Per Finnmedia, the watch that Rantanen paid for his number was a 41 mm Rolex Datejust and it was given to Roslovic after the Utah game.

Tällaisella ökykellolla Mikko Rantanen lahjoi joukkuetoverinsa – toimitettiin Carolinaan Suomesta (in Finnish).

edit: Oh, The Hockey News also did a piece:

I'm a watch fan but I don't understand paying this much for a watch. I get it's Rolex and that's how they roll but you can buy something that looks similar and functions just as well at any jewelry store for much, much less.

To be fair, its not like he asked for a Richard Mille or Patek Philippe

But yeah when you have that kind of money, a Rolex is a drop in the bucket. But even then, I think I'd still go with an Omega, and even THEN, I would probably still prefer just rotating through Citizen or Seiko watches.

Been working at a jewelry store upgrading some of their systems and over heard them tell a customer the "Glock" watches they have start at $600 and go up to just over a grand. My first thought was my Fitbit is perfectly fine at under $150.00 and damn I can buy an actually Glock for less than the damn watch.

Quick dirty (easy numbers) math reminder:

Someone making 10 million spending 10k on a watch is like someone making US median income (about 35k) ordering a run of the mill timex on amazon.
