This is a good trade for both sides:

To Islanders: Miller (with 40% retained this season, then signed to 7 year $7.85 million per season), PoolMan, Foccht, Briesbois, 2024 4th

To Vancouver: Dobson, 2023 2nd, 2025 3rd

Came for the Dobson to Vancouver post, and it only took 6 posts.

When will Vancouver fans stop asking for Dobson, under no circumstances is he available for Miller or any pieces the Canucks would be willing to move.

The list of players Dobson would be moved for is short, and the list will continue to get shorter. That list does not include Miller.

To be fair, while he is an RFA, Barzal will also be looking for a raise and will likely require a larger cap hit than Bert.
Barzal is also a 1c who has been playing in a heavy defensive system for a few years now. If the islanders want to get worse though as a Leaf fan I'm all for it.

he had 62 pts in 68 games last year - sorry 0.91 PPG and he brings way more than just scoring.
I replied he certainly is a nice player . Just not what you stated . He had one stat filled season . Let’s not forget there were probably 10 guys over 100 points this year . Bertuzzi wax 74th in league scoring . Yes he brings more than scoring but if that is all he brings then he is just a better Cal Clutterbuck type . let’s see TB string a few scoring years together before we put him in the next tier. As far as value I say you can keep him .

If we use last year as an example we still have like 3 weeks(ie early September) till we hear anything

Bertuzzi isn’t vaccinated. For the 75th time, Lou won’t take unvaccinated players. Even then, it was also stated he’s one year away from being a UFA. Barzal is about as important to the Islanders offense as Seider will be to the Wings defense, it just doesn’t work for the Islanders.
This player hasn't broken a ppg pace since his rookie season and has 2 powerplay goals during the last 2 seasons. 2! Goals aren't everything and he brings a lot more than that but his offense on the Islanders is highly overrated. Is that his fault or the system? Nobody really knows but considering he's still playing in that system, Barzal isn't as important to the Islanders offense and Seider will be to the defense. Nelson was arguably more important to the offense last season than Barzal.

With that said, I agree it doesn't work for the Islanders.

Nelson and Barzal are completely different players. Barzal’s play style is a puck possession, play driving style of game. He is the center of the Islanders offense no matter who you ask across the board. The gets room to play a more offensive style of play instead of the recent defensive system and his production will shoot up. Barzal getting premier matchups with the oppositions defense ultimately is what it comes down to. Teams tend to zero in on him because of how dynamic he is as a player.

Absolutely not from NYI perspective

His ELC ended, he doesn’t have a contract and the Isles own his rights.

<insert Captain Obvious pic here>
But ELCs are 3 years and he's played 2 full NHL seasons. Capfriendly says 19-20 counted as an ELC year but he spent the entirety of it in the KHL.

He did say at least 4, I'm guessing 6 pretty relevant transactions

1. Dobson re-signed
2. Romanov re-signed
3. Barzal re-signed
4. Bellows re-signed
5. Kadri signed
6. Beauvillier or Bailey traded

Lou would be very upset with Weekes' idle speculation if he had internet. That said, I'm going to assume Lou is going to delay whatever he had planned for today or tomorrow until next week just to spite Kevin Weekes making a big deal out of this

Just looked over the Islanders roster on Capfriendly.

Definitely some classic Lou cap management happening over there.
