I was recently in Cologne and went to a Kolner Haie game. My god, the atmosphere of a German hockey game is so much better than a Canucks game. They stand and sing all game, despite the actual game.

Lo and behold, I notice an ex-Canucks on the team. Alexander Grenier, who had a cup of tea on the team in 2016. Now he's the leading scorer on the Sharks.
I went to a DEL game 20 years ago and it was a blast; super cheap good beer, former Victoria Cougar stars on the roster, insane fans and even a huge fight where a player decked a linesman! All for under $30!

Clearly inspired by the opportunity to be teammates with former canuck legend Jayson Megna.
If he liked Megna that much, he should ask for a trade to the Colorado organization. Mind you, Megna's on the farm; Mikey might be the Avalanche starter with the way their goaltending has been.

Joni Jurmo is off to the ECHL.

Still thought it was wild that they offered him an ELC.

When he was included in the deal, I had no idea what the Flames were thinking. Flames fans were so excited. It was one of the few times I've seen Canucks fans rational and trying to explain that Jurmo is a wasted contract slot.

So as it stands now they received Kuzmenko (with the extra year at 5.5MM), who has been routinely benched in tight games (still), Joni Jurmo a wasted contract slot, a Hunter B. who has struggled with the move to pro, and the late first for the Lindholm rental where we got to game 7 of round 2.

Oiler fan here, don't purge me I come in peace. Just wanted to know why Canucks management pretty much gave away Podkolzin for a bag of pucks, and to their current #1 rival..

He's already a fan favorite and right now my personal favorite player on the team. He's strong, fast, young and with hands. Every single shift he's roughing folks up, creating so much time and space for his linemates Draisaitl and Arvidsson, who absolutely love Vasili's game. His post game interviews are pure gold too

Sure, he had 1 point in the first 10 games, but the intangibles he brings, at an elite level and most importantly, on a consistent basis, is uncanny. He is the perfect replacement for injured Evander Kane

Also, my former favorite player on the Oil decided to play for Vancouver. Hows Vincent Desharnais doing? Damn I miss him

Podkolzin had no offensive upside, wasn’t actually effective on the forecheck, and was disappointing in the AHL. Canucks improved their wings and he got squeezed out. He was on track to get waived and they traded him to get something for him.

Desharnais has been mostly bad. Healthy scratch and the low man in minutes. Has had a few okay ish games but has fallen to 7th/8th on the depth chart.

He works pretty hard but fails to achieve anything significant, you'll understand what I mean sooner or later.
He wont fit in a team with playoff aspirations, his injury and concussion derailed his development and he needs a lot of time to catch up.

Unfortunately I dont think he'll be able to play in the nhl as a regular.

1 point in 10 games is AHL tier when you’re playing with Draisaitl.

He's a nice guy who I really wanted to succeed but he's a bottom-6 winger who struggles to play in leverage minutes because he doesn't process the game well defensively and has zero PK utility.

He can occasionally show some PF skills but seems like a mentally weak player who gets down on himself easily and is constantly lacking confidence. There are some individual tools there but he struggles to put them together into any sort of actual effectiveness.

Basically he spent most of 3 years in the NHL and other than 1 run at the end of the 21-22 season he was consistently a below-average player at both ends of the rink. Was moved because it was better to get a pick than to lose him on waivers as he was not going to be in our top 12 forwards heading into this season, either.

Importantly, Podz wasn't drafted by the current regime so management didn't have any incentive to baby him and force feed him minutes in hopes that he could turn things around.

Always the case when there is a new regime. The prior draft picks will have their rope shortened by the new regime. Saw that in Ana when they moved out Drysdale and why Zegras name is still out there. Through to MacTavish who is doing his best Bo Horvat impression (was touted as a 2 way C who is struggling defensively). If PV didn't draft you, your leash is going to be much shorter now.

No damage to the new regime's reputation if that player doesn't succeed with the organization.

You'll be happy to know that I was able to walk up and get tickets right before the game for 25€! A great bargain nowadays.

To be fair to McTavish and Horvat, it's tough for young, two-way Cs to take that next level defensively when they spend important devopment years on bad teams with AHL level coaching.

Podkolzin is a very easy guy to like and root for. He’s a very hard working kid, very humble and polite, and everything about his game seems to project to that of a guranteed player. He’s big, he’s gritty, he’s defensively responsible and he has decent hands and a heavy shot.

The issue he ran into in Vancouver was that for all his hard work, he generated virtually nothing offensively. After a promising rookie season, he got progressively worse at getting the puck to the net to create scoring chances.

With the influx of new bodies this year, I think the Canucks recognized that he wasn’t a lock for the roster, and didn’t want to risk losing him on waivers for nothing, so they salvaged what they could.

I do think he’s an NHL player, if he can carve out a role for himself. Again, he does so many things that coaches love. And fans for that matter, too. But he needs all that work he puts in to start producing some results, IMO.
