I would never be surprised by the organization doing something stupid. Just imagine the deal that his agent will be able to get out of the Flyers knowing that they HAVE to sign him or the fanbase won't let them live it down.
fletcher trades the rest of the draftpicks left until im 94 years old for an extra few days to try to sign johnnyh, then loses him in the free agent market because math would be extremely entertaining.

wow, so they don't have a 2n round pick in 2023 and 2024?

f*** this organization.

Horrible asset management.

I'm rooting for Arizona and Colorado (I did like the AVS during the 96-2004 era)
And I'll root for Hextall to do a great job in Pittsburgh,

Example #5458592392q11100xxxx30230412ffex%3d221 of the Philadelphia Flyers having absolutely nothing resembling a coherent plan. Like I said the other day, when the DeAngelo rumor surfaced, Fletcher's team is all over the map with what they say they value, or what they show they value, or what they say and show they value while missing on the value. This is satire at this point. It's been covered, so I don't need to read the ledger, fresh with red ink, about the mind numbing Ghost-Risto-DeAngelo trade chain.

I'll leave the off-ice shit aside, because it's no less applicable to Carolina, and I'll just say that this trade perfectly encapsulates the divide between a well run organization and a dumpster fire. The Flyers could've signed DeAngelo to pennies last offseason; instead, they signed arguably the worst performing defenseman in the NHL to a similar role at a similar cost. Carolina, with all the player-team leverage, extracts every bit of scoring out of him, to bridge themselves past Hamilton, then sells high to the incompetent team that trips over itself to buy high on two different axes. The same team that finished 13th worst and 4th worst in back to back years -- without any elite talents that can insulate and utilize DeAngelo -- that is slotted to make 3 picks in the top 2 rounds in a 3 year period. The same team that bitches endlessly about poor defense. And culture. And cap space.

I desperately want to will into being that Sanheim leaves in free agency and signs with Carolina. I'll never be more certain that life is not random.

Carolina runs their team like a stock market. They bought low on DeAngelo & rehabilitated his value while getting some nice on ice value comparative to his caphit then ejected when the stock rose past the worth. They go back to the bargain again & find their next DeAngelo as this league is ripe for taking advantage of.

Like it or not this the type of stuff that keeps teams afloat in the hard cap.

The Flyers are like the guy getting Ponzi Schemed. Obviously the Flyers shouldn’t have traded for Ristolainen in the first place. But you had an opportunity to still sell on a replacement player to get some assets & cap relief but you elected to re-sign him. Laughton was another the deadline before. Now Laughton’s not a bad depth player but he’s ultimately a depth player. Sometimes even when you like players you have to walk away in the hard cap era. You have to keep creating flexibility as it adds up as we’re seeing with the Flyers.

The Flyers mentality as organization in regards to capspace & assets is either you’re all in or you’re not. More times they’re all in. They just spend & spend until they run it into the ground. They don’t want to make what they feel is hard decisions so they often just re-sign a player they like instead of moving them with savings on cap & additional asset(s) to then try to find a cheaper alternative.

I wonder how Laughon feels about this move, he is very outspoken about inclusivity in hockey and supporting lgbt players. He'll be professional no doubt but its gotta feel like your own team doesn't even take you seriously, especially when they use your message as marketing material.

As if that weren't enough, Laughton is basically propped up by the organization as The Gold Standard culture guy for the team. "This is the man all hockey players should emulate." Everyone knows the team is is full of shit, but to display that so blatantly with this move is something else. If you want to build a culture for your hockey team maybe don't go and acquire a guy who is the living embodiement of the exact opposite qualities you claim (loudly and for all to see) to be the model all players should strive for.

If the Canes are getting rid of a player, hang up the phone.

So is he going on PP1? They're paying him like he will.
Has to based on the price. Ivan is not going to be happy. I mean they have to trade one of Sanheim or Provorov this offseason, right?

Just compare what we have been done, and what the Canes did with ADA.

Canes signed a talented player with baggage for 1 year at 1 million. Got great production.

Then trades him for 3 picks instead of paying him.

What a great use of 1 million in cap space and 1 year commitment.
The problem is every other GM gets to trade with Chuck Fletcher, and Chuck Fletcher can't trade with himself.

He grew up a Flyers fan. They want their Tavares story.
His bedsheets were plain and being used for other purposes.

Apparently if it didn't matter for Carolina it shouldn't matter for us.....

Wholly disagree when as you stated..Flyers are trying to reestablish a culture and identity, but douchebags are apparently welcome bc hey they are good with kids...

It was just purely what went in & what went out between those trades.

But you also have the contract flexibility to walk away from a bad player in Hagg. You don’t have that with Ristolainen.

But yes you’d probably lose a million or so filling out Hagg’s spot which I rather be in position for now considered the future outlook of this team. $4M would also go a long way right now for a team that is desperate for capspace. The Flyers put themselves in contradiction. They need capspace but they keep managing their assets & cap so badly they don’t have it.
If you’re arguing that Ristolainen was a terrible investment, you’ll find no opposition from this member.

And the point doesn’t even need to be that someone “care about them,” where that equals “an impact player.” If they simply milked out their cost-controlled years, that means they’re not paying free agent prices to fill those roles, which means they have more money under the cap to spend it for a true need. Trading draft picks is a strategy for specific uses, not an involuntary bodily function. The value in keeping and having X% contribute to your team is that you control their costs. I don’t think any franchise is poorer in implementing this than the Flyers.
alot of people dont understand the concept of the salary cap! You need to have players who play above their payroll! And its very very difficult to find older players sign for less money. So if you want to build a contender you need to build from within!

You need young players who can contribute on elc´s or first pro contracts after the elc. They dont need to be star players. It can be the backup goalie, the 5 and 6th dman. It can be complimentary players on lines 2, 3 or 4.

You cant buy a cup in this times! As long as we have a salary cap you need to build from within. Alot of people will never understand this! And many of them are staff member of NHL teams!
