He had a three year run with save percentages of .918, .912., and 9.15 to three straight seasons at .896. It's a strange case for sure to see a guy go from really good to horrendous overnight before the age of 30.
you cant predict goalies rly good in this league. But you can predict its hard to comeback for a goalie after 3 bad seasons over the age of 30.....

He has 4 straight 30+ win seasons then 2091-20 happened and he's been garbage since then. What happened? Is it the team in front of him?

The common theory is a groin injury crippling his lateral mobility, combined with a reduction in pad size.

Jones isn't a very athletic goalie and relies on size and positioning, but his glove is a hole, he can't move across the crease quickly enough, he doesn't control rebounds, he can't read the play well and is not often in the best position to make a stop, and he's not much use with his stick (either pokechecks or playing the puck).

You're basically getting a 6'4" trash can on skates controlled by someone in the press box using a NES controller.

this is bryzgalov all over again. At least he make less money! Good signing Fletcher!

The irony is that having Hart and so many good goalie prospects tied Fletcher's hands.
If he was shopping for a starting goalie, he would have made that the offseason priority and did what it took.
But signing a goalie to a starter's deal (or trading a 1st for one) doesn't make sense for a 1-2 year patch at 1B.

No no no no!!! There's no way in hell Jones or Ristolainen would have been ANY better on good teams they're both awful.

Here's how it works on HFboards:

Elliott > Jones
Hagg > Ristolainen
Laczynskyi > Thompson
Braun > Ellis
Ghost > Yandl
Patrick > turds
Voracek > Atkinson
Myers > York

Oh yeah and 5 years from now, the best player taken after 12 in this year's draft is the guy we gave up to get Ristolainen so we have to factor in how that guy is a HOF lock.

It’s clear they were zeroed in on Jones because of the Dillbaugh connection. When he was asked about Holtby, Fletcher basically said he didn’t want to come here. He probably doesn’t like the Flyers much from his time as Cap.
Holtby probably holds a grudge from that time Emery chased him down and beat that ass at the wells Fargo center. Speaking of Razor, Chuck should of just signed him! Would have been way cheaper and he has as much left in the tank as Jones.

You, uhhh.... the thing is.... ummm,

Ya can't sign dead people to player contracts, despite whatever AL Morg(pun unintended)anti tells you on WIP.

Man, there's to different gerts on this board and I always get confused on which one is the same one and which one, well....isn't.

Thankfully they make the distinction VERY easy.

I've paid attention, and all this nitpicking is just that, a lot of crap.

If this season comes down to NAK v Thompson as the 12 forward (actually, Allison and Laczynski should bury both of them) then they're screwed anyway. Because it probably means Frost went belly up and/or Allison/Laczynski were injured. And you'd hope that Foerster/Wisdom/Ratcliffe broke out and made the issue moot.

Thompson was overused in 2019-20 but Frost or Bunnaman would have made zero difference - they both sucked.
When veterans get over played it's a symptom of lack of depth, if the kids were ready there would be no issue.

You're still assuming the Flyers run on merit, and it isn't the case.

Some of the candidates priced themselves out of the picture or wanted term. But sure sounds like this was more or less based on Dillabaugh's recommendation. (Martin Jones)
