It's a one year contract, low risk high reward backup. People still find a way to find this "horrible" and cry. Every f-ing move people cry on these boards anyway.
How in the world could this be considered low risk at all? I'm really hoping for a rebound for Hart, but all we've talked about this offseason is how we need a 1B in case that doesn't happen. Hart was among the worst goalies in hockey last year, with Jones not too far behind. Fletcher completely screwed up the backup goalie situation, this is a huge risk he's taking.

Doesn't like the move....but has to give a silver lining.

35 year old Dubynk had an .890 save % on the Wild the season before. "Pre-trade to Colorado"? He had an .886 save % in his 5 games with the best team in the league. Dell is a career backup who had a couple good years, is aging, and was bad in Jersey in his 7 games (.857 save%) after a waiver claim. Talk about misrepresentative context.

Based on Fletcher's comments about the Flyers being "poor defensively" to singularly blame for hideous netminding, I'm beginning to think he doesn't believe goaltenders are responsible for any stats.

lol.

I'm trying to make myself feel better about Jones by taking a "sour grapes" approach to the other UFA goalies: "Well, it's not like any of the other affordable free agent goalies were sure things, anyway."

Armchair GMs always bitch and whine

Eh, we signed a goalie who was at best equal to Elliott last year after saying they wanted to improve the position. This does not do that. They continue to sign bad veteran goalies. Which is weird considering they have drafted some good goalie prospects over the years, but seem to have a massive blind spot for signing FA goalies

This is still baffling to me.

A backup was a significant piece of a successful offseason. I’d actually argue that the Risto gamble is far more reasonable than this.

Now the only option if Jones flops is to spend an asset on a competent backup.

Carter better have a hell of a year because I’m not relying on Martin f***ing Jones to be the saviour when the goaltending gets leaky.

At least one of Holtby’s years was a year where he changed teams and also had turmoil. You can easily draw a line through it and base it more on the year before where they also changed their mix. Jones already was washed.

I guess it’s not impossible that Jones could bounce back too, but it’s less likely. He was off the rails before the rest of the Sharks.
