. I thought he was just on the protocol list like Kakko was but I guess if he has been in protocol for a bit it might suggest he had covid???
The NHL isn't identifying positive covid players?

I’ve been sounding this alarm for a week and no one seems to care lol

he’s been on the Covid list since last Thursday now. That’s not procedural. He’s not skating at all. They aren’t saying anything.

You have to have an NHL-level relationship with the puck to play defense effectively. He simply doesn't. He's not an NHL player with the puck on his stick.

hey even your analytics are going to disagree with you on this tonight.

he’s been quietly very good for who he is right now. He’s the kind of guy I like on my third pair if I have two really good top pairings. Just don’t get scored on and kill penalties for me

You know, I miss a lot of goals even though I always have the game on at work

Check the boxscore, and it always seems to involve Blackwell, Rooney, PDG, etc

What a pathetic season this has been. A massive step back from last season, when we ended the year trending WAY up

I mean there is so many spin jobs with our young players, but they just flat out do not produce. Zib went from elite to.. average? If we're nice?

I don't understand how some of you can watch this team and not be dramatically dissapointed and concerned about the future

Here, have some analytics

can you explain this chart? like what’s the formula?

I’m afraid of what Chytil looks like after a bout with Covid too. He’s still in protocol

by the way Hajek looks very good. Solid steady bottom pair guy right now that maybe is a number 4 guy in a couple years. He had a very good game. He’s also not getting murdered every shift either
Seriously, he will probably be fine like 90% of the roster of de the devils, flyers and sabres.
We just should end this Zibanejad bulsshit excuse, of course covid affects people ddifferently, but mika doesn't look gassed out here, he just looks bad.
He's been horrible and should be held accountable, 1/4 of the season has passed by and he looks like Etem out there.
He should be scratched for the next game. BTW, kreider too.

The reality is if you get to a point where Miller is logging his 25 a night, and someone like Lindgren or Robertson is logging 20, you really only need 15 minutes of steady, keep it simple, be a defender type play from that last guy.

The biggest issue I’m having with the COVID excuse for Zibby is this isn’t some rare occurrence across the league (or other leagues). A significant number of teams with dozens of players have tested + and yet I don’t recall hearing many (any?) other stories of players looking anywhere close to as lethargic as Zibby. Yes, I know, it effects everyone differently. I just would have an easier time believing that is the case if we could point to a few other examples. We have a very large sample size to analyze here, so there should be other examples to point to.

There are plenty examples of young healthy people without any underlying conditions dying because of Covid

Regarding the skating he did have a 4-6 week injury. If it was a serious wrist or arm injury not sure if he would be skating out there formally with the team or Even on his own.
I guess we will never know unless Chytil comes out and says he had covid. But I understand what you’re saying too. You would think if he was negative at this point he would be taken off the protocol???

Each site uses their own formula based on shot distance and shot type (deflection, royal road, rush, etc) to determine the percentage chance a given shot attempt has of going in. That percent chance = that much expected goals.

So if a shot attempt has a 15% chance of going in, it is 0.15 expected goals. It's cumulative, so if you do that six times, you have 0.90 expected goals for the game.

This chart is a +/- of that number. So for example, when Kakko was on the ice tonight, the Rangers had about 0.50 more expected goals than the Flyers, which is roughly equal to one shot attempt that has a 50% chance of going in.

Doesn't sound like much but a 50% crack is pretty good and that's one player. Plus, it's a +/- number so it's a 50% crack your opponent didn't have.

exactly

21 solid solid mins tonight. 3rd among blue liners. Never going to be a playmaker that’s for sure
He took a nice one-timer and made a nice pinch with confidence. On top of playing solid, stout defense. I was impressed. Looked like exactly what we need on the bottom pair. He seems to have become somewhat self-assured in the last game or two. It makes a huge difference.

Yeah, but bottom pairing minutes don't NEED to come from a homegrown prospect either. They can just as easily come from a Nick Holden, Steve Eminger, or Freddy Claesson.

If Libor becomes better than them more power to him, but then he'll get paid more to go somewhere and be a second pairing guy.

Sometimes.

It all depends on timing and cost.

Agreed. John Moore was tremendous value for us on the third pairing during that cup run. Just wouldn't want to pay him what he's making now to do that again.

And that's where you try to be astute and move them before they get to that point and let someone else make that decision.

I don’t think there’s a place on this team going forward. I think Lindgren stepped up and took the spot that would be there for Hajek. Hajek may well turn into a decent third pair/2nd PK guy, I just don’t see a spot hit him here doing that. I think Lindgren is a better version of that guy.

It’s not to say he won’t pan out, I just think he’s going to get squeezed out in the numbers game.

And yet he probably comes out when Miller is ready
Johnson has to be the one coming out. Or else everything we were told about Johnson "just being there for the locker room", "he's not going to play", and all that was just bullshit. A lie. Yet those of us who lamented his signing day after day were told we were worrying about nothing. When you sign the worst player in the league, it's a problem.
