I don't even want Doop back but god damn if this isn't anything but a troll for them only to play Doop against the Canucks I will be severely disapponted.

Or I guess I won't even be disappointed. I should really expect this shit at this point.

I'll be disappointed in myself if I end up watching that game, or any other. And I know I will.

Hell
LOL they are trolling their own fans if they play any of those as the real goal song.

Either that or I am now so old that I'm out of touch with the teams target demographic.

Using a song due to a wrestler getting cheap cheers for it makes me want to puke.

The thing is that these songs don't fit ANY demographic.

Ah yes, I'm sure these three actually were recommended in any mass amount to warrant this.

Flyers release list of three finalists for new goal song

This franchise should fold.

Leave it to the Flyers to hold a fake fan vote for a new goal song, ignore all of the votes, and then hold a finalist vote with the 3 songs some douchebag either on the team or in marketing decided to select. There is no chance in f*** that This Girl even got a single vote from a Flyers fan and I STRONGLY doubt that any of the 3 would have received more votes than Doop, Bro Hymn, and dozens of others.

Anywho, i'd have to rank this farcical list:

1- Beer
2 -Tarzan Boy
.
.
.
848,000,000 - This Girl

I love using "Beer" as the song since I love the movie BASEketball, but they want to start the song at the wrong time...2:44 sucks

So I voted for Tarzan Boy, but I think all 3 aren't the right answer so ::shrug::

I know it’s only a goal song and doesn’t really matter, but that we can so blatantly screw this up with such terrible choices is really a microcosm of everything wrong with this organization.

It stopped being the Flyers with Ed Snider's passing. The exclamation point was the removal of Kate Smith's statue. I anticipate a time the team apologizes for having used the term "Broad Street Bullies." You know, it is important to be liked rather than scorned.

I'm with you on Sniders passing but the Kate Smith statue has nothing to do with the demise of the Flyers. Maybe they moved too quickly, but they ultimately decided it was unwise to alienate and offend a demographic of their fanbase they'd like to welcome and grow. I don't need to explain to you how painful the history of the N-word is for black Americans. Regardless of how long ago it was, they made the right decision.

It turns out that Smith recorded at least two songs that were hits in the early 1930s but are now seen for what they are: racist riffs. One is called “That’s Why Darkies Were Born.” It starts, “Someone had to pick the cotton, someone had to slave and be able to sing, that’s why darkies were born.” The other is titled, “Pickaninny Heaven,” which also brims with racist language and was featured in the film Hello, Everybody! starring Smith.

Holmgren said it well..

The NHL principle ‘Hockey is for Everyone’ is at the heart of everything the Flyers stand for,” team president Paul Holmgren said in a statement. “As a result, we cannot stand idle while material from another era gets in the way of who we are today.”

Demise? No. But Kate Smith represented something unrelated. When the Flyers won the Cup it united a city. It brought people together as one. When a struggling city needed it. Smith represented the Flyers in the 1970s. She should continue to be part of the us-against-them that permeated the Flyers and the NHL. The "us" was Philadelphia and/or the Flyers. Those of us who witnessed it first hand know that.
