Demise? No. But Kate Smith represented something unrelated. When the Flyers won the Cup it united a city. It brought people together as one. When a struggling city needed it. Smith represented the Flyers in the 1970s. She should continue to be part of the us-against-them that permeated the Flyers and the NHL. The "us" was Philadelphia and/or the Flyers. Those of us who witnessed it first hand know that.

We don't see eye to eye on this and so i'll leave it at that

Personally, I tired of the whole Kate Smith cult and trotting out of her anthem. Dated just like the Flyers cup victories. Long overdue to move on from both although I understand the nostalgic sentiment of those who experienced it. I still have my fascination with the 86-87 Flyers...

I'm against anything Kate Smith because we haven't won anything since we started "invoking the spirit of Kate Smith" on the jumbtron anyway.

It's a loser's tradition, in my mind. I don't care if we ever see her again other than in documentaries about the 70s Flyers Cups.

It was just another sign of the organization resorting to the old days which is something they desperately need to rid themselves of. Its time to evolve.

I wasn't a proponent of the "mix" with Lauren Hart. Smith's version was symbolic of the 1970s and the title teams. The live performances were electric and ecstatic. The luster was lost. That was something for the Spectrum. And on that topic, the current building can never come within the same stratosphere of the Spectrum. That building intimated the strongest of men. I forget who said it, but the visiting bus entering the ramp was a cause of concern for opponents...before they saw the ice.

And as far as the 1986-87 team mentioned above -- or that era -- it was a re-birth. That team had stars but it was more so a team with depth, almost interchangeable parts. One win away from what could have been the most overwhelming championship parade ever conducted.

This. The Wells Fargo Center is a cavern. My dad and uncle constantly say the same thing you did about the Spectrum vs. WFC. Bottom half in sports venues in the US

The Spectrum was an amazing experience....I am glad I got to experience some great games there. I will never forgive my dad though for leaving the game early where Hextall scored his first goal. I was in the lot and heard the roar outside....I could not believe how loud it was so you can imagine how loud it got inside.

I told this once or twice but someone I knew who worked for a rival team and whose experiences went back to the 1960s/early 1970s, said Game 6 of 1987 was the loudest he had ever heard. Nothing even close to it. That story has been duplicated and processed many times but he told me that the next day. It was spine-tingling.

I often debated re-writing history and if I could change only one of the six Cup losses, it would be between 1980 and 1987. Younger fans would likely choose 2010 or even 1997 and that is understandable but 1987 was unrivaled.

I am with Bill Matz on this one. Maxine Waters, get right back where we started from.

the 3 “finalists” seem like momentum killing dirges to me.

And there is no way in hell they were the actual top 3 vote getters. If you go on Flyers twitter every comment is about bringing back Doop, yet somehow those 3 random ass songs got more votes? Naw, aint buying it.

Now I’m questioning the integrity of the vote for the flyers name back in the day. This whole team is a lie!

It was never a vote to begin with. They were just taking suggestions before paring it down to a handful that would be voted on by fans and players. It's dumb as shit obviously, but if they had an open vote that's how you end up in a Boaty McBoatface or Fred Durst Society of the Humanities and Arts situation.

Still better than what they came up with.

I say they just scrap the idea of 1 goal song and treat it like wrestling/baseball/etc. and give each player their own goal song

Like Tarzan Boy sucks as a general goal song, but it would've been perfect for Jake Voracek at his hairiest

Capitals do this. It would be awesome. Our marketing team blows though. The people in charge of the business side, like Valerie Camillo, are completely out of touch with the fanbase.

Capitals make custom theme songs!?!?!

Oh dude I thought we'd be the pioneers for it...sigh.

Well, I still support it even if it isn't as cool now.
