My opinion on the dee. Take your favorite 2 rooks, promote 'em and play'em.

Getting 2 of 3 rookies transitioned to full-time NHL play is a tough enough task to take on. There are no guarantees of success transitioning to the toughest league in the world, no matter how long we fans have watched or waited or anticipated their eventual success.

Once (and if/when) 2 of them are "over the hump" so to speak, then the 3rd can come play too.

There's just no need to "go all in" in time for the first puck drop in October. Having 2 of them on the NHL roster is a massive step in itself, and it's very possible we'll see all 3 on the roster by season's end, especially if they prove themselves in the NHL rather than just being the highly touted prospects they are now.

Also. Doing it the "slow way" does so without any risk to the short-term goal of moving the team forward in capability and building the new team make-up (transitioning 2 or 3? both fulfill the goal), as well as the longer-term goal of a Cup win (same again).

Is there any upside in putting all 3 in the show immediately? Yes. IF all of them immediately, or quickly, prove ready for an NHL game AND do not inhibit the development of either themselves, or their teammates who are relying on them to provide crucial pieces of the puzzle to also get better. Flyers have a lot of new elements to test out...no need to get too crazy here.

When all is said and done...I am happy to try 2 plus AMac to start this experiment, and see where it goes. Prove first...then act. There's absolutely no question that when the experiment is finally over, AMac will be gone. It's just a matter of time. Once the rooks prove in the show they are better than AMac, then risk-adverse GM Ron is gonna pull that trigger!

Sure, thats basically been the idea the whole time, right? If they're ready then they're ready... play em.

Having 3 rookie D on the team at once will absolutely involve some bumps in the road, but I'd argue that its better to suffer those growing pains all at once and get it over with. That way next year we're closer to competing with more experienced guys on defense.

Of course that's only if they're ready to move on from the AHL and the promotion doesn't seem like it will hurt their development. Personally, I don't think there's much they can do in the AHL that they can't do in the NHL, as far development goes. Different story with guys like Myers and Friedman though, they need the time there.

You also need to find out what these three can do, because next year Friedman and Myers are going to be knocking on the door, and it's gonna get awfully crowded even with MacDonald gone. I doubt either of these two are going to need more than a year in the AHL.

Wasn't that at the end of the season AFTER they finished their respective JR and college seasons? I'd assume it was due to team chemistry and how others were playing and no correlation to their play

If you saw Friedman play early on, it's obvious that he's pretty polished, while not as offensively talented as Ghost, he's stronger and has a better two way game at the same point in their development. I doubt he needs more than one year in the AHL to be NHL ready. I think he has a chance to be a Kimmo like defenseman.

Myers is one of the top propsects in all of the NHL, he needs to fill uut a bit more and polish the rough edges, but he could be our best defenseman in three years if he stays healthy, a rare combination of size and skill. He might take longer than Friedman to develop, but like Sanheim, he has the raw skills to compensate while he learns on the job.

This.

Gordon was too afraid to disrupt team chemistry.

It cost them dearly. Myers and Friedman could have titled that series in their favor. Instead their season ended in the 1st round.

Myers arrived much later than Friedman so I didn't mind him sitting out.

But Friedman was there for a month and played one game.

Seems like lineups for this mornings practice is a line of Giroux-Couturier-Voracek

Lindblom got “demoted†to 4th line for today’s practice

Line and pairings aren't set in stone.

Trying different combinations in camp is pretty normal, for one thing, they may be forced together due to injury down the road.

And the first 20 games are usually a shake out cruise, if a line clicks it stays together, but if a line is struggling, new combinations are tried - same with defensive pairings.

No matter how good a combination looks on paper, it's on the ice that final decisions are made. Chemistry can be elusive.

Hextall has an extra forward and defenseman, but he doesn't know what offers will be made to him over the next couple weeks, which means Hakstol can't be certain which players will actually be on the team (obviously some are pretty certain, but others/).

Bardreau & McDonald may have been cut although not officially. Bardreau was in LHV today with their practice. McDonald I'm not really sure what the deal with him is but he'll very likely be cut regardless.

16 Forwards:
F Sean Couturier
F Valtteri Filppula
F Claude Giroux
F Travis Konecny
F Scott Laughton
F Jori Lehtera
F Taylor Leier
F Oskar Lindblom
F Nolan Patrick
F Michael Raffl
F Matt Read
F Wayne Simmonds
F Mike Vecchione
F Jakub Voracek
F Jordan Weal
F Dale Weise

8 Defensemen:
D Shayne Gostisbehere
D Radko Gudas
D Robert Hagg
D Andrew MacDonald
D Brandon Manning
D Samuel Morin
D Ivan Provorov
D Travis Sanheim

4 Goalies:
G Brian Elliott
G Alex Lyon
G Michal Neuvirth
G Anthony Stolarz

So two forwards, one defensemen, & Lyon need to be cut still. Stolarz stays up & placed on an injured reserve list.

Filppula on PP1 over Lindblom is garbage.

Coots on left wall of PP is garbage.

That would leave them with six defensemen which obviously won't happen. If you take Lyon out, they would have to make three more cuts. Odds are it's two forwards & a defensemen that will be cut.
