As for Goaltending, i think Nuevirth gets taken via ED. I think we then bring back Mason to a 3 Year Deal 4.5M. We then sign Anders Nilsson to a 1 Year $900,000 (as a proven back up/not a platoon/and also moveable if Stolarz or Lyon is ready.)

that sounds alot bettter then Neuvy DOESNT get taken and we end up losing Mason and have to roll Neuvy/Stolie as a tandem..

:amazed:

I don't know in what world Neuvirth with a $2.5m caphit is worth more than Raffl or Laughton.
Neuvirth would just be another asset to VGK because there are clearly better goaltenders (with better contracts) for them to draft.

The Flyers are on the verge of cutting ties with goalie Steve Mason, according to his agent, Anton Thun.

Mason, 29, the Flyer's main goaltender the last four seasons, can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

Thun said Wednesday that he and Flyers general manager Ron Hextall have talked recently, but have not had any formal contract negotiations. "Unless something changes between now and July 1, he'll be going into free agency" Thun said.

"In all honesty, he would have hoped the Flyers would have been interested enough to enter into contract negotiations with him right now, but they didn't, so you move on" Thun said.

Hextall declined to comment.

Mason was never being signed before expansion. Not sure what that guy wants.

Well maybe he wanted contract negotiations to happen to bring Mason back and agree to do so after the ED. Look at the Weal negotiations as an example. They sound like they have agreed in term.

But this certainly sounds like we have moved on. Hopefully Hextall can work his magic.

At some point they have to sink or swim with Stolarz and Lyon, they aren't that young, and with Hart and Sandstrom likely to be in Lehigh next year, it's time to find out what they've got. I'd rather tank the system and find out they can't cut than stumble along with a mediocre veteran, do a one and out, then find ourselves next year not knowing what we have in this pair.

I agree in principle, but the bugaboo with Neuvirth is that we are pretty much guaranteed he will be on IR for 20-30 games. Having to roll both Stolarz and Lyon would be a recipe for disaster.

I think grubauer would be an interesting guy to acquire who is still young if we can flip him from Vegas.

If we have a worse starting goalie than Mason next season I am going to be pissed like hell at Hextall.

I'm pissed if we let Mason go.

Our goaltender options...so meager.

Not sure why, Mason hasn't played that well in games that matter. He's done alright but not enough to justify a long term contract and I'd rather see what the prospects can do in the near future.

Who would u like to acquire rebel? I am ok with giving a shot to Pickard, grubauer, or fleury if need be.i would rather give a younger guy with something to prove a shot than an over the hill vet.

Mason burnt bridges on the way out. I'm surprised that his agent let him rip on about being the de facto number one guy and not wanting to look over his shoulder and then comparing to other teams. If Mason wanted to come back, it would have been very easy for him to say that last year was a difficult year, he's going to learn from it and he's going to prepare to be the very best. The rest of the stuff, you leave that in the office with Hextall and Hakstol. You don't go public with that. It's like Brian Boucher when he threw Bill Barber under the bus after the Flyers got bounced in the first round a few years back. You just don't do that.

As for the goaltending options being meager, others have pointed out that the Flyers need to see what their young guys are capable of. There's been numerous teams that have gone with young starters and they've turned out fine. Stolarz has been playing the pro game now for three years. It's time to see what the Flyers have in him. Is he going to be a gamer or he is going to be fodder? Might as well see what happens. I know I'm an advocate for Brian Elliott, but I'm not totally opposed to seeing what Stolarz can do as a starter. Don't forget that if Las Vegas chooses four goaltenders, not all of them are going to play and that might cause issues. As well, not every free agent is going to get signed, so some might be sitting and waiting. The Flyers are actually in a not bad spot right now and this is where we'll see what Hextall is really made of with regards to addressing the goaltending.

Hell no to Fleury

Pickard, Grubauer, Raanta are all viable options

Halak as well

Bernier I am meh on

Elliott last resort for 1 year

Mason has been bad a lot more than good going back to the 2016 playoffs. He certainly did himself no favors in getting a new contract with his play, or his stupid comments at the end of this season. That being said, while there are a lot of options out there this off season, there aren't a lot of good ones. I'm definitely not in the "we can't let Mason go" camp, but I can't say I am overly optimistic about the position moving forward with anyone else in free agency. Again, hopefully Hextall has something up his sleeve.

I'm still sticking with they just sign Bernier to share the net with Neuvirth.

Earlier in the off season I was thinking the same thing. I would like to think they will have their sights set a little bit higher than that. I have this bad and sinking feeling that they will trade for Mike Smith. Just a gut feeling and I really hope I'm wrong.
