I'm not saying he deserves to stay but firing Clode isn't the difference maker here.

If he's gone there needs to be a plan in place. Beyond firing him. That's just management trying to save face.

Florida fired Gallant and that hasn't exactly worked wonders for them...

This is one of those articles that has a get-your-attention headline but there's really no meat behind the sizzle.

The headline makes it sound like a coaching change is something they're considering, but you read the article, and Sweeney makes it sound like the only reason he's talking about it is because the interviewer won't stop asking. "I'm not avoiding the question..." In other words, I didn't bring this up, I don't even want to talk about it, but since you won't shut up, sure, we have to look at all ways to improve...

I think he's being honest that they'd like to see better starts, but he follows that up by saying he gives the coaching staff a ton of credit for how they're preparing. (So what's he saying, the slow starts are more on the players?)

I think he's correct in saying they need to be better on the PP, but he also says that's improved lately.

Then he really shifts the blame onto the players and their inability to score... He talks about them not hitting the net, so many lost scoring chances... He talks about the players lack of courage/conviction to go for rebounds...

Which IMO, brings the focus (and the blame) back on Sweeney and his ability (or inability) to make a trade that helps the team. I credit Sweeney for being accountable, but I also think the criticism is fair there too.

OT: It also makes the choice to target Landeskog over Duchene clearer to me. If it was me, I'd look at Duchene, but if they really believe this team needs more grit/guts to get to the dirty areas and score dirty goals then Lando has it over Duchene on that barometer.

Out on a limb.
If you've gotta dump him, do it NOW, while the Habs are actually good. Last year at this time, they'd have dumped Therrien faster than gravy drips off of poutine. I still think he's a good coach, and in a new environment, he could be dangerous. I'd just prefer that environment be somewhere out west.

I'm not convinced that dumping him will solve anything. But I'm slowly becoming convinced that keeping him isn't as helpful as it could be. I'm looking for at LEAST 6/8 points (or 5/8 points with AMAZING effort in ALL games, even wins) on this road trip, which should be doable if we're a playoff team. Not one of the four teams are playoff teams, and if Claude can't get the team rolling, it may be time for him to roll.

All that said, I think "restructuring" Cam's role would be less visible, but more constructive, than firing Clode. I still feel uneasy with a lot of his decisions.

It's amazing what adding a top 6 forward to the lineup does for a coach...
You aren't going to make this team a contender just by replacing Julien. How about surrounding him with some players that can play his system. He's a proven winner at all levels, Neely on the other hand is probably a hindrance to the front office

Boston is 3-11 against top 10 teams. We beat a struggling Florida team with no real leadership. This game shouldn't change anybodies opinion but I'm glad they won.

I cant read the article because I don't have a subscription but was he asked about his roster?

NHL Talent:
Krejci
Backes
Pastrnak
Bergeron
Marchand
Rask
Chara
Krug
Carlo

Borderline Regular Players/All teams have a few:
Spooner
Moore
Vatrano
Blidh
Beleskey
C.Miller
K.Miller
McQuiad
Liles

How are you on a regular NHL roster/AHL Players:
Hayes
Schaller
Czarnik
Nash
Morrow
Khudobin

So 2/3 of this roster is borderline talent on top teams. Sweeney should answer that question because he asking Clode with all his flaws and hangups to make chicken salad out of chicken ****.

The roster is a joke...who's fault is that. Last time the blame was on put on PC when Neely had his fingers and was adamant on a lot of the bad shots made. Neely has Jacobs ear. Two people these core players most respect or respected (I have it on good authority) were PC and Claude. Change can be good but in this scenario I don't think it's the answer, it's just a deflection off of self.

2.5 years losing ... same amount of time Sacco has been here. Fire him first.
Fire Claude and who do you replace him with? Cassidy? Sacco?
Or does Sweeney go behind the bench?

Id like Gallant, MFer would be one pissed off dude ready to make a point and look what he did in Florida.

Sacco should have been fired 2 years ago, he should have been gone when Jarvis and Houda got the ass last off season. How he manages to survive is ****ing beyond my realm of thinking.

Powerplay sucks, is literally nearly league worst, and the powerplay coach still has a job, we started sucking when Sacco came on board, Avs fans literally cried of happiness when he was gone.

If this happens it'll be a huge mess.

Instead of actually providing Julien with legit talent we think firing him would be better for the Bruins.

Ugh

"Legit talent" like a.....
Top 5 goalie? Tuukka
Top 5 Selkie type? Bergy
Hot young goal scorer? Pasta
Solid top line consistent goal scorer? Marshy
Top dressing room and on Ice Leaders and Captains? Big Z and Backes
Top shut down D-man? Big Z
Really great depth at center? Krejci, Bregy, Backes, Spooner, Moore.

This roster maybe a few moves away from being a Stanley Cup favorite but by no means is it lacking "legit talent".

I don't understand the knocks on this roster. This is a roster alot of teams and coaches would love to have. Problem Im seeing is how its deployed and how to get the most out of the legit talent we have.
Of course we have some holes to fill but those holes aren't the reason we are losing games against bottom teams like NJ. We seem to show up half way through games or not at all then flip the script game to game with strong performances. Its maintaining and playing hard night in and night out. Its putting players together to get results and sitting the Jimmy Hayes of world. Maybe call up some talent and send some down, mix the lines up or keep a working line together.
Stop over playing the Chara's and past prime players so much and use them less to receive more quality minutes?

Just some ideas

Ps- where are the application forms

2.5 years of losing and he finally admits it.

It has been around 50 years since the Bs didnt make the playoffs for 3 years in a row, looks like that streak may come to an end.

DS has been there 1.5 of them in his current role;)

This PR carousel is getting old. If you're going to get rid of him, do it. There have to be a few teams out there salivating at the chance to have Julien behind the bench.

This team leads the league in possesion stats, yet isn't scoring consistently, which doesn't sound like a coaching problem to me. The front office has created this issue, with a lackluster bottom 6 where playoff teams at least have a productive 3rd line, with the Bruins also rolling out a patchwork defensive corps.

You purge your up and coming talent, and make unforgivable deals for players like Zac Rinaldo. Then take your scouts' pets instead of exciting, top talent like Barzal and Chabot.

My specific gripe with Julien is his reluctance to give Colin Miller bigger minutes. K. Miller and McQuaid can't be out there as much as they are.

All in all, Sweeney can play will they or won't they as much as they want, maybe it's just to get the roster boosted a bit with something on the line. But this is a borderline playoff team at best, and they're doing their best.
