While you make a good point, if Sweeny thinks the same way then this should be considered a rebuild year and CJ's job shouldn't be in question.

Why?

Whether or not this is a "rebuild" year should have zero bearing on whether Clode stays or is fired. If, internally, in their heart of hearts, the B's actually know this is a rebuilding/retooling year, then it makes some of his decisions look even worse.

The only thing that should matter is who will be the best leader for the B's now and going forward.

I wouldn't fire Clode just for the sake of it. But if Sweeney has a coach in mind that he feels is better suited for this team/style with lots of young players moving forward - he should go ahead and make the move.

Well put, this is exactly where I am.

I like Clode, thinks he's been a very good coach, but I don't know if he's the best fit for what's coming?

Not saying your wrong GD, but this is what I don't get about Claude.

If he is such a great coach (and he is, Top 3 in the game IMO), why can't he coach a team where a large portion of it are younger players , and still be successful?

Or a team where he doesn't have as many of his perceived "Strong defensive-types)?

Because I think he can coach this type of team. He may have to adjust his tactics a bit, maybe even a lot, but he's a smart enough coach to have the ability to coach any type of group really.

You look at the way Sweeney has tried to set-up this team long-term, it's basically going to be a veteran group of 63, 37, 46, 42, 47, 40, 33 (as long as he wants to be here), and maybe 39, supported by a bevy of current (88, 25, 6, and 72) and future (McAvoy, JFK, Debrusk, etc. ) young players.

I don't see why Claude can't have success with that type of group, unless he's also given a bevy of safe zero-zone veterans along with them and those are the players he prefers to play over the more talented young players.

Yes, Glory, do tell.

Your question provides the answer, BruinDust: Of course he could (likely would) be very successful with better ingredients (as he was a mere 5 years ago). Most Chefs are.

Those fortunate few NHL coaches (chefs) that are set up like Jacques Pepin or Julia Child with high quality ingredients in professional kitchens are able to turn out culinary delights with relative ease.

Claude, in contrast, has been thrown into a remote jungle by DS, ala Naked and Afraid, with only a firestarter and a machete, searching for grubs to cook up.

Mmm, Mmm, disgusting.

The Bruins recent run of success from 2008-14 started out with being energized by a lot of emerging young players: Kessel, Krejci, Lucic, a bit later Marchand, Claude did well with that crop.

I don't think that the B's roster is nearly as bereft of talent as you are making it out to be.

If I was forced to make a culinary analogy, I would say the B's aren't gourmet, but they also aren't Nakes and Afraid (as amusing as that visual is). More like a good chain...think Longhorn or Cheesecake Factory.
