I still think they’d be foolish (that is their MO though) to try and buy this year. Sure, they’re decent and would be pretty good with a D upgrade like McCoy but you don’t buy when you’re in 7th or 8th place. It just ends up being a waste and they’ve done enough of that in the last 12 months.

Reasonable, but 2025-26 if everything goes right seems far away for a team with Flint’s top forwards and pick surplus.
Let’s say NTC is not a factor for Beck & McCoy, does that give Flint a reasonable shot?

I can't see Flint looking up the standings at Saginaw, Soo and London and thinking about buying and going for it. This should be a standpat softsell kinda year for them.
Nailed it here.

I think Hayes gets moved, Kressler if you can find a buyer.

I'd like Pitre to get moved too, but because of his little brother being on the team, I think they hold on to him.

A sell could be very good if blue chip prospects are returned. More picks would be useless if unable to acquire players with them.

Still a few things you can nitpick but overall you can’t complain about the effort or results this weekend. Pretty impressive road trip for the boys. Now if they can just get it figured out at home a little better.

5 of 6 points on that trip you will take 100% of the time.
I know his numbers don’t look great right now and there will be games that just look bad at his age and expierience level but I’m growing more confident in Jacob Brown every game. I think they’ve got another good one in him and Struthers numbers looked pretty good last I checked too. It’s nice to feel set in goal for the foreseeable future.

Agree with that Brown has been very solid in his rookie year.
Pumped for Gavin, hopefully he makes the final roster.

It’s a win for Firebird fans, Gavin and Team USA if he does and it’s a win for Firebird fans if he doesn’t. I hope he does. It’ll give some other kids a chance to show they deserve ice time during his absence and often players come back from WJC flying and on a tear. I’d love to be rocking one of my USA jerseys as they honor Gavin’s Gold Medal at center ice in January. I think there’s a decent chance something similar happens for Bertucci and Day next year too.

Great weekend last week.
Awful weekend this week.

Hayes looked disinterested and ready to hit the road for the WJC.

No. Beck, Ludwinski and McCoy? Maybe, but I’d probably still want a cheapish OA upgrade on Dann and an import upgrade on Samenas. After that I’d still be concerned about Kressler staying healthy, Hayes showing up in big games, their home record and not coming out flat in rivalry games. This isn’t the year to take a run. It never was after what they did last year. If they had saved the 6 picks on Dann and added another 4-5-6 picks and a Porter Martone or Nick Lardis by selling though?

Flint could have saved the 6 picks and maybe added 6 picks if trading Lombardi.
But with S.Wright available and Missassauga (Beck & Del Mastro) joining Hamilton as big sellers, it just wasn't really possible for Flint to get any of Martone, JVV, Lardis, or even Testa.
Hamilton was fortunate enough to have the only offensive RD made available, and made the Petes pay.

You don’t think Amadeus Lombardi would have garnered one of those or at least someone close in addition to some quality picks? It would have sucked to see ANY of them moved as a fan but if they had moved Piercey (likely could have found him a spot for a decent return) and Kuzmin (possible) man could they be set up right now. I still think Ottawa would have been much better off paying two high end picks for Kuzmin than the 8 for Mintyukov which I just thought was insane for an import. They probably would have finished in the same position.

Kuzmin was really good for Flint. I don't know the '67s reasoning, but for what seemed an insane amount of picks they did get the very best players available for picks only.
No, I don't think Lombardi garnered any of those players. Wright, Beck, and Del Mastro had more value. London unable to get Wright without giving up Bonk, identified Winterton and Humphrey as ideal fits.

Ottawa needed to add more physicality last year, they didn't do enough last year to address that and Mintyukov was a huge over spend IMO.

Lombardi would get a player in return if the destination was any other location. Agents and players still have considerable reservations about going to Flint. Its going to take a couple of years for the new GM & Coach to change the narrative.

Pretty disappointed Flint wasn’t in on Budnick at that price and I think they should have went after Chromiak too. With 3 2nd round picks next year they need to move at least one. Even if it’s at the draft moving it for a 2nd a couple years down the road plus another pick.

Considering the explanation given was he wanted to play closer to home, would have expected Flint to be all over it. Chromiak would have been a little more challenging. Slavicek would have had to go in the other direction to make room for him.

McParlan wouldn't be the first GM to focus on developing talent from within and really build something with his own fingerprints on it. The team doesn't have the strongest 05/06 group so focusing on the 07 and this years draft to make a push in 25/26 has some merits. They should also have two new imports next year.

Totally agree. I was thinking moving on from Samenas in the Chromiak deal. Kid skates hard. Hits. You need better than that out of a 19yo Import though. I doubt they could have pulled Chromiak off at all. Just dreaming here.
