Day just keeps getting better. Deserved the shut out tonight, played absolutely fantastic.

Not sure why Dionicio was running his mouth so much.
Yeah. It’s gotta be his net now. His GAA is now UNDER 2.00 for the last 5 games and without doing the math, I’d say his save% is around .940 for that stretch. The boys looked better tonight and have been lately but that W was all about Daisy. I want no part of Sarnia in round 1. I don’t like their chances vs London or Windsor either but if they pull Windsor in round 1 the Firebirds are going to absolutely tenderize them for the Sting or Knights. Guryev, Piercey, Smith, Pitre, Deline all reset to zero fighting majors too? Oh boy.

I don't believe the fighting majors reset?

My understanding is that fight count is per season. In the past specifically last season that was interpreted as the regular season. Playoffs reset the counter to zero. We saw that working last year when Riley Piercey fought during the playoffs last year after most certainly hitting the 3 fight limit during the regular season.

This and the bench reaction during the game. Gotta love these moments.

First star of the night! I don’t know if they win that game without that goal. That’s gonna be a memorable one for sure, right up there with Gretz getting his first after giving his Mom flowers on pink out night, Oksentyuk’s lacrosse, Slavicek’s wraparound, Sean Day putting in the EN.

Showed up late last night. I walked in right as the 1st goal was being scored. Got the replay on now. Guelph really had control of that first 10 minutes last night. Day held them in it. They’re playing better D in front of Day lately. Which helps Day and he’s been making all the saves he needs to. So there’s no deflating goals early. Which keeps the boy’s heads in the game. For so many games this year has been the trend of taking a bad penalty in the 1st 10 minutes and/or having a huge defensive breakdown or a soft goal.

For sure. I just wish it hadn’t taken 55 games for Dent to see that Cranley wasn’t the guy. Makes me wonder how Will’s taking it and how he’ll play when he gets in.
I won't disagree that Nathan has played great the past 4 games but I'm not sure making him the starting goalie 55 games ago would have been best the move (IMO). Like you said letting in early goals would get in his head and then boom there's a couple more. He's stepped up his game over the past 2 weeks or so but so has the rest of the team. Can you honestly say they have played their best in front of Will?

Happy with the performance and the efforts last night. The boys are looking like TEAM finally. Very good game for our D unit, they have been playing with more confidence since ND is starrting. Happy to see our home almost full! Keep it going boys!

No, for sure. I don’t think Nathan was ready 55 games ago. I don’t think he was ready 25 games ago. I do however think things could have been handled differently to get him there a little sooner. His game has improved, the team in front of him has improved too but it was mostly just getting his head there that took time. He’d look really good…then bang, bang, bang….. I didn’t always like the starts he was given, how and when he was pulled or when he was left in either. I think if you’re gonna move Petrovski for picks, you shoulda used those picks on Constantini too. Also, no, I don’t think they’ve played their best in front of Cranley either but the main issue with Cranley all year has been letting in the routine save at the absolute worst times. He’ll make the crazy post to post save or whatever but when it’s tied 3-3 with 6:00 to go in the 3rd some 3rd liner will just put a floater over his glove or through his five-hole from the top of the circles. I’m curious to see how well plays when he gets the net again. I’m curious to see how the boys play in front of him too. It’s never ideal to go into the playoffs with a 17yo between the pipes. I don’t see the Birds getting back to the WCF and just getting out of round 1 will be a challenge but they look good lately and I’d like to see whoever gives them the best shot in net. Right now, I think that’s Day by far.

Day seems to have Windsor's number so maybe he makes it interesting if we meet in the first round.

So bummed Day didn’t get the shutout tonight. Still…. named one of the Stars of the Game. Again. At some point the chants of “Daisy! Daisy!” gotta start right? Uhm. On the other side Nolan Dann has zero goals in his last 17 games.

Keep riding Day tomorrow vs Erie? I guess I’d say yes. It’s not a 3 in 3 but I don’t want to wear the kid out either. He hasn’t played this much in a couple years and if Flint isn’t on point from the drop, both these road games could be tough. I’m slightly more worried about Oshawa than Erie though and I’d prefer the goalie on a streak to play vs the tougher opponent usually. Still, I think you gotta go with Day and if he goes off again, you start him Sunday too. It’s to the point where you have to get concerned about Cranley getting too rusty too. They need both W’s this weekend and it would be REALLY nice if Windsor took care of Kitchener tomorrow.

This deserves to be posted everywhere. I didn’t witness this, but saw it posted on an Erie Facebook group. An older lady had her car stuck on the side of the road. We got hit with 3-6in of snow. For reference, this road is a very busy area with 6 lanes of traffic near our mall.
The Firebirds blocked off the area with their bus, and everyone hopped off the bus to help get this lady unstuck.

These are the moments that need to be shared. The OHL is an amazing league and as American teams, we are very fortunate to have this talent in our cities.

Thanks for posting that. For Firebird fans….that’s not the Firebirds bus is it? I wonder if that’s gone. I know it was used for other stuff occasionally like taking kids to prom in Detroit and whatnot. I wonder if it was just a wrap on a lease from a local bus company. Or just in the shop? There’s definetly a more professional look having your own team bus done up in team colors. It’s just another thing that does/might help recruiting just a teeny tiny bit.

When we went to Sarnia they did not have the team bus they were using a charter bus, I believe it was Bluelakes.

They’re in a Bluelakes Charter Bus in Erie.

That was about as garbage a win as you can have. I don’t like him pulling Day there. Nathan has been on fire and put together the best run by a goalie they’ve had all year. I bet he goes back to Cranley tomorrow too which I don’t like. Dent should have called a time out and settled the TEAM down instead of pulling Day I think. Pitre getting a hooking penalty going for a hat-trick at the end is ridiculous too. Time to do a quick re-set and get ready for Oshawa. Hopefully if he does go back to Cranley tomorrow, Will can have a good game.
