Flint Firebirds 2022-23 Off-Season Thread

I have the CHL app and the OHL package on my phone/tv. I can watch any replay. Jack Snjezxwklst? interviews Dent after home games. I just never watch them because I’m at the games, not watching on tv and if I do watch a home replay it’s usually to see a few plays. Dent also does something with Channel 12 like once I week I think.

Gotcha, I never watch the home ones either because I’m there as well. I have the OHL package so I‘ll have to check those interviews out. Thank you!

Yeah, the Channel 12 thing is usually on Tuesday nights. Shows up on facebook and twitter for the Firebirds.

Thank you, I have seen the Coach’s Corner on Twitter. Although those have been not as frequent as in the beginning of the season.

Nothing as of yet, and shouldn’t be anything. he didn’t even hit the player that hard and was shoulder. was 2 seconds after and in real time…. Only issue is he has a target on his back from the “O” doesn’t help.

It was a cheap shot, he 10000% could have avoided it. He received a match penalty for it, he is getting suspended.

Knew we were going to lose as soon as Cranley was announced as starter. In any normal situation he wouldn't start another game. Also pulling the goalie on the power play with more than 4 minutes left in the 3rd was one of the stupidest moves I have ever seen from any coach in any level of hockey.

I didn't post it on this board but this is why I said Flint was a potential landing spot for a Tristan Lennox trade. You could have swapped OA goalies and then Flint would have had a top goalie and Saginaw could get Oke more games in preparation for next season. A couple decent picks and I think it could have happened. Saginaw traded with Plymouth in the past but I'm not sure if trading with Flint is a no-go since the rivalry feels a LOT stronger than Plymouth. Plymouth was always just better because they could get the USA players and we couldn't but the rivalry with Flint is a lot more equal which makes it fun.

A lot of overreacting, he is always getting chopped at and players instigating just to get him out of the game. Most of the time he just laughs.

Y’know…… you constantly hear “Oh! They’re still just kids” and “Mental health, mental health, mental health….” which I totally agree with up to a point. Then the league leaves Guryev just hanging in limbo for a week. Think how frustrated WE are waiting for a decision to be made. How do you think Artem feels? Like wtf is the point here Branch? You think THIS is good for the kid’s mental health? Wtf is the hold up hippocrit? Watch the video. Figure it out. Release the info. Simple.

I was disappointed we traded him and I wish him well.
But this seems like abuse of a kid now -it seems the league has zeroed in on him and is making him the poster child of poor play.

It’s like he is being persecuted-I haven’t seen the replay of this latest infraction but leaving him in limbo is terrible

Since he’s been here he’s been suspended twice. First one. London kid gets in his face, challenges him then when Guryev drops and goes, the kid instantly goes into turtle mode. Artem threw a couple after the kid goes to his knees. Fighting Match. I didn’t particularly care for the length of that suspension but he was clearly goaded into it and fell for it. The current suspension? Just dumb. He hits Ty Voit behind the net two seconds after a goal. He KNEW it was a goal and he didn’t try to crush Voit but he clearly left his feet and threw a check long after the whistle vs an unsuspecting player. Give him some games. 3? 8? 10? Whatever. He deserves it but, c’mon! What the F is the point of waiting a week to decide? How does that do anything other than having a negative impact all-around?

There is NEVER any excuse for a delay this long. Rewatch the video a couple times talk to officals involved make a decision.
In this case the play was very stupid/dangerous from a guy with history so he deserves a lengthy suspension I feel like 10 games should be the range but he should know what it is within 24-48 hours not several days.
The league did this to Arber Xhekaj last season as well.
Still very often the OHL is exposed as a bush league gong show..

Yeah, I had considered that. Now. My question would be what is the point of that? What purpose does that serve? If this league truly wants to compete with kids taking the NCAA route there’s a lot of really simple fixes if you’re not an idiot. I just don’t know what they’re thinking sometimes y’know?

Ya I have no idea what they are thinking but I do know that teams and players have a pretty good idea what it is before it goes public. Doesn't make it right with fans but players usually get the info quickly although sometimes not as in the case of Jack-eye.

the biggest issue here is that the OHL talks about watching out for these boys and the mental issues that they endure from fan and teammate pressure. Yet they can not be upfront with players and make a timely and fair decision when it comes to suspensions as stated earlier in a thread, 24-48 hrs should be plenty of time for review and discussion with the player involved. This puts so much mental stress on the players not knowing when they can return. do not single any player out to make an example, be fair and equal to all players and issue the same punishments. Stop! Playing mind games and using these boys. If you want fighting and hard hitting removed from the game stop promoting highlight videos showing such. But also expect to lose fans and players to go to other leagues because this is hockey not figure skating.
