You are mixing things up.
Pollock swapped the Habs 1st with the Golden Seals 1st for 1971.
But the LA Kings started to play even more poorly than the Golden Seals, so Pollock traded Ralph Backstrom to the Kings for basically nothing to boost them.

Habs won the 1970-1971 Stanley Cup and drafted Lafleur a few weeks later.
You’re right! That’s what happens when I don’t double check my facts first. Funny enough, I preach this stuff to my kids all the time lol.

Florida would need to trade their 2025 1st round pick (which is entirely possible) or draft top 10 in 2025 (their pick is top 10 protected - this is extremely unlikely), and Calgary would have to draft 1st OA in 2025. In which case everything transfers to 2026 and we get the better of the picks in 2026.

Really??? Are you sure if Florida trades their 2025 1st, we either get the Flames 1st this year or next???

Are you sure about that? If so, we should trade for the Florida 1st if they haven't traded it to someone else by the deadline.

Are you sure about this - that Florida can trade their 2025 1st.

I thought I heard because there's a condition on it, they're not permitted to trade it.

They can't trade it.

But they traded their previous 1st round pick in 2024 to the Flyers and it was also protected so there was a possibility that 2024 pick would have slid to 2025 which would have made the 2025 panthers pick not avalaible to us which is why this clause was added but this can't happen anymore.

Philadelphia previously acquired this pick (Panther 1st round 2024) as the result of a trade on March 19, 2022, that sent Claude Giroux, German Rubtsov, Connor Bunnaman and a fifth-round pick in 2024 to Florida in exchange for Owen Tippett, a third-round pick in 2023 and this pick (being conditional at the time of the trade).[30] The condition – Philadelphia will acquire a first-round pick in 2024 if Florida's first-round pick in 2024 is outside the top ten selections[31] – was converted when the Panthers qualified for the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs on March 28, 2024.[32]

That's a great result, Calgary created an 8 point gap with Nashville and the Preds are starting to really look like a fringe bottom 10 team. I'm not concerned with Nashville finishing below the Habs. Some of the other fringe teams like Detroit, Utah and Pittsburgh also took Ls today.

This is looking way better than I ever imagined. Let's hope Calgary stays healthy.

People aren't giving them the credit they deserve, they are a hard working team and very well coached. Also that division isn't great they play a lot of bad teams, a lot lol

Conroy seems to be looking to add, which is good.
Might be smart to pull a Sam Pollock on them and trade Calgary a vet or two to help keep them just over that top 10 spot :naughty:
Yeah, says he's looking for a right handed center. Not sure if Evans qualifies.

Flames playing at home against the Islanders tonight. Another winnable game for them, no Habs game tonight so will watch the Panthers/Jets game and keep an eye on the Flames one too.
