Correct.

If both Florida and Calgary are from 11-32, then we take the higher of the pick.
If Calgary is a top 10, we take Florida’s pick
If Florida is a top 10 (unlikely), we get Calgary’s pick
If both is a top 10 (unlikely), we get the higher of the top 10 pick (except for 1st overall)
If Calgary’s pick is 1st overall, and Florida’s pick is top 10 (unlikely), our pick is deferred to 2026.

Out of all these scenarios, the most likely is both Calgary and Florida not top 10 pick. So most likely we will get 11-32.

Still we got two first round picks to take on a contract.
I guess this is the prefered scenario? We want Calgary to finish closest to 11th without being top 10?

So how do you people cheer for CGY games? Hope they play a little under .500?

In no world are the Flames a playoff team. They finish .500 at best. They aren't going to give up a top 10 pick for half a dozen points at end of meaningless season.
How could Calgary possibly give up a top 10 pick? Flo would have to pick top 10 too.

Ideally it would be both Calgary and Florida top 10, but Calgary isn't the 1st overall pick. In this case for example if Calgary is the #2nd overall pick, and Florida is 9th overall pick, then we get the #2nd overall pick.

I double Florida will finish top 10 worst, and Calgary might be top 10, so its highly likely we will get Florida's pick.

How? Flames are about .500 team at best. Why would they finish 11th to 14th from bottom when they could sit couple guys final few games and finish in bottom 10? Thus keeping their top 10 pick and giving Montreal Florida pick.

Calgary not a playoff team but not bottom feeder neither. West has several terrible teams. Ducks, Sharks, Hawks, a few hapless teams from east. Maybe another if Nashville goes rebuild. Unless Flames run into rash of injuries they will draft around 10-14th.

My point is that for calgary to give their top 10 pick, Florida would have to be top 10 pick to, which won’t happen

Caleb Desnoyers be good with this pick. Guite had great Hlinka Gretzky but done little since

I said the same basically....Him or Malcom Spence. I don't think Spence would drop out of the Top 10 but I sincerely think teams are more careful drafting out of the Q so Desnoyers might slip into that 11-15 range.

Imagine adding two big boys in Martone and Desnoyers.

I think we also need another RHD but I just don't want to force the pick if they aren't the BPA.

More likely to be able to package our MTL and PIT 2nd (both should be high) to jump in late 1st and have a shot at Tretheway, Fiddler or Mrtka.

Martone/Misa/Frondell + Spence/Desnoyers + Tretheway/Fiddler/Mrtka

That'd be a mighty fine haul to turbo charge the rebuild.

Still think it's quite optimistic to expect them not to be bottom 10 but I'm loving it for now. Either way, I doubt we draft a player with this pick. We will likely trade it for a proven player.

Just spitballing, but if the Flames 1st is miraculously top 15, I could see it packaged along with Matheson and a forward prospect for Andersson.

I wouldn't trade all that for Andersson unless it's a sign and trade. Guy is 18 months away from UFA. Seeing what D got this past summer, and the fact he's RD, he's going to command a lot. I can see him wanting to test the UFA waters. A lot of teams are going to have the money to pay him. He has no reason to stay with a mediocre Flames team or a rebuilding Montreal team.

Calgary pick will be top 10. Habs will have Florida's pick.

It's going to be a close finish. There are several teams definitely worse than them in West: Chicago, San Jose, Anaheim, Nashville to start. Seattle also looks to be a pretty bad team this year.

Then you have Montreal, Philadelphia & Columbus in the East.

Definitely:

Montreal, San Jose, Anaheim, and Chicago are all looking like bottom 5 teams. We can add Nashville, Philadelphia & Columbus for a bottom 7. Seattle is awful and is finishing in bottom 10.

That leaves 2 teams to fill out bottom 10: Detroit, Pittsburgh, Utah, St. Louis & NYI are all currently in the mix. Ottawa & Calgary a little outside of it.

Calgary is currently 3 pts up on 10th place Pittsburgh with a game in hand.

This would be contingent on him extending with us which he can do like a week after the draft I believe

I would make big offer at draft maybe. Like to fix our defense next off season. I want two veteran right D. Or one and a #2 center
